Good morning #TheWateringHole plant friends! πͺ΄ π±. Itβs Tuesday and a chilly 45 degrees here right nowπ₯Ά but sunβs out so things will warm up soon! Pearl π has the right idea βοΈ! A few things going on. The ficus had very dusty leaves so got a full shower outside while the afternoon sunshine warmed him up. Love how green and glossy they get π₯°. My Hope peperomia longest tendrils are yellowing at the top so I cut them back to see if we can direct the energy closer and not going down 3 foot vines, fingers crossed π€ Here are her cuttings. I havenβt water propped Hope peperomia before. Is it pretty successful or is there a way youβve found better?? Whatβs happening in your oasis? #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PropagationStation #PetsAndPlants #Peperomia #Ficus

Good morning dear Marian and everyone π!
Your plants and puppy look to be enjoying the sun and ficus freshly cleaned leaves!
Gosh, I don't know anything about propping but surely someone will!
It's been snowing steadily for more than 4 hours and they say it will continue until the middle of the night.
It's sooooo quiet and beautiful π.
Hoping ya'll have a swell day!
As for me, I'm feeling pooped and plan to do as little as I can get away with today. π

@GracedStrapwort ooh wow look at all that snow! Are you on one of the Great Lakes? We have some friends in Buffalo that definitely get βlake effectβ snow βοΈ And your thanksgiving cactus is beautiful, what a beautiful coral color π€©
@CutePolypremum Mind if I live vicariously through you today Joanie? Snow and doing as little as you can get away with sounds lovely! ππ₯° My mother grew up in Connecticut and here in the PNW we donβt get very much snow, but when we did my mom would wake me for midnight snow walks and I remember them fondly βοΈ
@MariansOasis and good morning to you too Marian! And everyone at #TheWateringHole Your ficus looks so nice and clean π§½ π€© and Pearl sure does look like sheβs enjoying the sun there π₯°
I am scrambling a bit with my daughterβs birthday coming up next week and to add to the chaos, my beautiful anthurium and dragonβs breath alocasia FINALLY just shipped. I ordered in early November so Iβm π€πΌ π¬ really hoping they make it. But tracking says itβs gonna be 7 days in transit π« I did have the foresight to add a heat pack but I was not expecting a December shipping date. Oh, and theyβre supposed to arrive on my daughters birthday π€¦πΌββοΈ π€ͺ
But anyhoo, check out my cute hoya cutting with new leaves that have grown so big, so fast! First 2οΈβ£ pics are November 17, and last few pics are 11 days later π±π₯°

@DreamMachine I live an hour below Lake Erie, so we sometimes get dumped on. We got 6 inches last night, but north of us got 8" or more. It is a good day for crocheting Christmas π π
@GracedStrapwort Deb the snow βοΈ is beautiful!! And what a pretty shade of coral on that TG cactus π₯°
@GracedStrapwort Iβm so jealous we have our first snow of the year mixed with sleet and rain. Subs of Philly here so blow it my way please ππ» Not even picture worthy π« Love the coral color on the Christmas cactus.
@CutePolypremum steady snow βοΈβοΈβοΈ. Please post pictures!! π¨οΈποΈ. Enjoy your low key day today!!!
@MariansOasis Very cool ficus and the peperomia is amazing π€© never saw one with such long vines. I know Pearls much cuter but weβre just chilling today to.
@DreamMachine wow your little Hoya is so happy!!! Sweet little leaves ππ₯Ή. Oooh thatβs a lot happening for you coming up. Hopefully all goes without a hitch!! Which birthday for your daughter?? π§. Where in CT did your mom grow up? My familyβs from Norwich. Near New London/Groton side of state.
@MariansOasis Your Hope Peperomia cuttings will do great in water. Theyβll develop roots in no time ππ»
@GracedStrapwort The color of your cactus blooms is gorgeous! We just got our first real snow and Iβm all cozied in watching the birds . Weβve never had this many stuck around our feeders in the winter. I could sit and watch them all day! π
@MariansOasis my mom was on the other side! On a farm, outside of a tiny little town: Washington, CT. When my husband and I were on a 3 month road trip in 2010, we hunted it down, and found her old home π₯³ without gps or smart phones π Then we went across state and took the ferry to Long Island (I believe we caught it from Mystic CT if I recall? Orient point? I need to find our old road trip map! I recorded with highlighter every route taken) so I think we drove through Norwich! My daughterβs body is on Monday! 8 on the 8th! π
@debbiedo lovely Debbie!! That looks so cozy π€
@MariansOasis @CutePolypremum @GracedStrapwort @ILoveMyPlants @debbiedo I donβt know how you all scoop your soil but look at this idea! A coconut shell π₯₯ π‘ It scoops so well!! (If you happen to have a couple coconut shells lying around like I do π€£π)
@GracedStrapwort that coral color is stunning!
@DreamMachine guess your daughterβs birthday just has to be cancelled. π€·π»ββοΈππ
I keep saying βlast one,β but a tiny little local nursery is closing for the season so I wanted to β¦βhelp herβ by taking two off of her hands. π«£NOW, Iβm done. Probably. π¬π«£π€ͺ Got this cute little dwarf umbrella and beautiful African violet thatβs about to bloom! I also am trying some of my cuttings and monsteras on moss poles, so that was my project yesterday! Hopefully they wonβt get dramatic about it!
@DreamMachine You give Martha Steward a run for her money girl π€£ Not a bad idea they are tough and I keep breaking my plastic pots. When I first saw your Hoya I thought it was a jewel orchid but now see looks like itβs off to a good start. Ya know both Etsy stores I ordered from were selling from Pakistani π€·ββοΈ Just noticed when I went in to see where the heck my stuff is π€ Got credit for the one and soon the other. Both stores had 5 stars but both are no longer available. No more Etsy shopping for me . Amazon has never done me wrong . Are you having a party for your daughter ? I canβt wait too hear about it Martha
@MamaLinne Oh I donβt blame you nice haul but Iβm loving the variegated umbrellas. I have a solid and itβs by far one of my fastest growing easy care plants. I also love the hue of the violet to. If I wasnβt so darn lazy Iβd get up and take some pictures. But do have my blue cebu and Christmas cactus.
@MamaLinne LMAO π€£ π€·πΌββοΈ Very cute little dwarf umbrella and AV!! π€© Good for you for βhelpingβ π
@ILoveMyPlants Hahaha π Now letβs hope I can Martha my way into making a good birthday party happen π π¬π€πΌI just want to take a nap π₯±
I can see that it could look like a jewel orchid for sure! Itβs a hoya macrophylla and it did nothing for a long while and now itβs taking off. πΏ
Oof Iβm sorry for you bad luck with those Etsy shops. π« I caught one the other day selling monstera albo cuttings for $5, and I was like whaaaaat?? Then I saw it had only a handful of all 5 star reviews from accounts that had just been created all saying the same thing, βitβs really real!β And it was based in Dubai with free shipping. π€¨ I called BS on it, and now itβs gone. π§I only buy from stores with good reputations that Iβve bought from before or at least lots and lots of reviews from real people. Itβs so frustrating when things go wrong! Glad youβre getting credit back!!

@debbiedo thanks Debbie, good to knowπ
@debbiedo what π¦ birds do you get at your feeders? Looks like finches?
@GracedStrapwort Oooh that looks sooo cold π₯Ά
@DreamMachine aah CT is a small state so I know exactly where Washington is π. I went to Girl Scout camp πΆ ποΈ not far from there in Litchfield. Beautiful area! Thatβs so cool you looked up her old stomping grounds! My husband and I did the Ferry trip β΄οΈ from New London to Orient Pt Long Island several years ago for my best friendβs daughterβs wedding π. Visited my family first in Norwich, then off to the wedding festivities! Turning 8 on the 8th!! ππ₯³πππ
@MariansOasis Ahaha, Litchfield is very special for my parents because itβs where they fell in love with each other!! They both worked at a nursery there π₯° I believe it was White Flower Farm. πYes, thats the ferry trip! My husbands granny lived right there on the tip of Long Island, and we visited her next π
@princesspitstop I know youβre probably busy arranging everything but I miss you π₯° . Anxious to hear about the move and your jungle too
@TRose thanks Terushia! Iβve got enough to give that a try too!!
@MariansOasis
Oh gosh, Marian.
I didn't look at Greg since this morning π.
It's dark out right now so no possibility for photos.
I'm π sorry!
We'll see what tomorrow brings!

β€οΈ π π
@ILoveMyPlants Hi Deb!! π I miss you too!! β€οΈ Man, I sure hope I don't have to do this again for a while! If I do I'm making a resolution to be way more organized about it. It's pretty chilly for Texas. The low is going to be 37Β° in the morning so everyone is inside. I don't feel like I have near enough light in here for them to be happy. Fortunately I went dumpster diving on Sunday and found a floor lamp that's going to be perfect once I put a grow bulb in it! π I wasn't really randomly jumping inside dumpsters I went to work with my hubby and was helping him clean up the dumpster area because people at his complex don't know that they are supposed to put their trash into the compactor and push the button so they just leave their bags on the ground. Larger items they will pile up along the side. π₯° Now that I wrote a novel lol How are you? Staying warm?
@MariansOasis I need some of that sun. Itβs cold and raining with a chance of snow
I need other help now. Does anyone use water softener/conditioner? I have been using a brita filter and still waiting 24 hours before water my plants with it. Iβve noticed the my soil is hard and doesnβt held water after a while and the containers I keep the water in them is dirty on the bottom. Please give me some suggestions on cleaning up my water π¦
@GracedStrapwort loving the plump flowers and color. Wow the snow looks pretty but my fingers are crossed that I donβt get any
@DreamMachine midnight walks in the snow sounds so rewarding and fun. I remember taking my kids out and playing in it
@DreamMachine beautiful. I placed orders without heat pack also. Good on your daughter birthday celebration
@MamaLinne they are happily beautiful
@ILoveMyPlants loving your plants and how they are all snuggling together
@MariansOasis Yes, tons of goldfinch at the moment, a few house finch, chickadees now and then, and junkos on the ground β€οΈ
@DreamMachine Are you a Monty Python fan? You have half a horse there! π
#TheWateringHole Good Evening everyone, Iβm late to the party as always! But I started earlier got interrupted and lost everything I had written, I hate when that happens! So now I get to start all over again. @MariansOasis your little pup looks like she is sunbathing so cute! π₯°. I love that shiny Ficus that is one happy tree! Sorry I canβt help with Hoya props! There are some new additions to the oasis, I got a new crown of thorns cactus with a tiny red flower. And since I havenβt seen any progress on my Schlumbergera bridgesii I decided to add a Schlumbergera truncata to the mix. It came with blooms and Iβm hoping that it wonβt drop them all due to shipping stress.π€π€π€! The fire pit took the chill out of the air on Thanksgiving which was nice. I also added an Aloe Vera to the Oasis. But it was in the wrong soil and working on root rot, I lost one leaf. Thatβs why I decided to repot it in succulent soil and a terracotta pot. I generally donβt like to repot plants outside of the growing season but this was an emergency! More in comments below π
I was visiting my sister for Thanksgiving and I got to enjoy the fire pit which took a little of the chill out of the air. Oh, before I forget, I am glad that I found out that the Philodendron Black Cardinal doesnβt typically have a dormancy period and it has a new leaf!! I have also added a Fiddle leaf fig plant to the Oasis, I like the big leaves. And I am hoping that Iβm going to have better luck keeping it alive, now that I know a little bit more about its peculiarities!π€π€π€!! So thatβs all I have for today I trust you all had a good day and an even better night! Time for some Zzzzβs!
@FitBrowallia Oh, I know the feeling all too well. Who could resist all those pretty plants.
@FitBrowallia Sorry I canβt really help you with your water issues. Since I only use distilled water for all my plants. I used to do the filtered water, but I didnβt like the look of the residue that was left behind in the container when it was empty and dry, it looked like salt???
@FitBrowallia Nice haul I think all the places you buy plants from should have restraining orders against you π€£ Really though how do we stop the beautiful madness. If you look on Amazon they have the water additives to help condition it from the impurities. I remember Evelyn used it and said it was a game changer. Just go through them and see the best rated ones before buying.
@Ms.Persnickety Glad you had a nice holiday π«Ά And a great savior to your plant . I love the haul Iβm also fearful about my Christmas cactus that hubby brought home for the holidays but I got one starting to pop fingers crossed. . So happy to see you here at the hole .
@ILoveMyPlants thanks Deb. A restraining order that may help my addiction. I sure canβt do it myself
@Ms.Persnickety mine look like dirt.
@FitBrowallia
Good morning!
So, Jonchel, leaving filtered water out really doesn't do anything.
What plants need is distilled water or pure rain, well water.
The Britta and other filters may clean out some chemicals for humans but not for plants! There are still toxins left that might eventually even kill your plants πͺ΄.
If you don't want to buy distilled water you can get a distiller for about $50.00.
It makes one gallon at a time and around 2 gallons a day.
I got mine on Amazon last year.
Hoping this helps!

@CutePolypremum thanks Iβm going to do some research and whatβs going to be the best for me
@princesspitstop Hey you had to find this post after checking twice. I hear you with moving probably the biggest reason I live here for 33 years π« dumpster diving is the way too go believe me I know. My husband finds all kinds of great stuff that we can flea market when he retires (or so he says π€·ββοΈ) Iβm assuming 37 is unheard of by you gun slinging Texans πJust kidding my hubby has enough guns and amo he could start a war . Hopefully π€ this will be your last move. And grow lights are god sent . Take care I know youβll figure it out.
@FitBrowallia Yes indeed Iβve already filed the motion but unfortunately have not gotten to the Etsy stores π€£
@ILoveMyPlants Yes ma'am I had to spin the page to get to the bottom like I was on the price is right! Lol I think we're the only Texans without guns. Not like we're anti gun or anything. My husband used to deer hunt years ago we just don't have any now. We should probably reconsider though. There was a shooting next door at our old apartment complex over the weekend. It wasn't random though so I feel a little safer. Still a little bit too close.
@DreamMachine I like your coconut π₯₯ shell repurposing! I use scoops left over from the horseβs supplements π
@FitBrowallia love your new baby rubber plant πͺ΄! π₯°
@princesspitstop Yes you should Iβm so sorry you had such a thing happen. But come on down youβre the next contestant π€£ Good old Bob reminds me of the cheese wheel times .
@ILoveMyPlants I don't know if you saw this thing that I found at Goodwill over the weekend. It's a wine bottle holder that I'm repurposing into a plant holder! I think I'm going to put a bunch of Thanksgiving Cactus in it. I keep seeing them all in bloom next year π₯°
@FitBrowallia I researched our tap water. Go to the website for your local water district where theyβll have posted water quality that has everything they have/find in the water. Ours doesnβt use chlorine or fluoride so leaving water out overnight wonβt make any difference since thereβs nothing to dissipate. But ours does use chloramine which isnβt a gas like chlorine and fluoride so Iβd have to use something to eliminate it which is typically the drops used for fish tanks. However the dechlorinator has to eliminate ammonia to as thatβs what remains after chloramine is broken down. Once I found out there arenβt any gases to dissipate in my water I just use filtered tap water. However because our water is so hard here I use fertilizer that is low calcium. RepotMe has fertilizer thatβs meant for βwell waterβ or hard water. Iβve read water thatβs been treated with water softeners isnβt good for plants so if thatβs the case Iβd research what to do in that case. Hereβs some AI info. https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=water%20softeners%20and%20plants&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5
@princesspitstop Oh wow I love that youβre options are endless with that. Pictures please you now have me brain storming for mine itβs so loaded itβs hanging too one side.
@DreamMachine Go Patsy! π
@MariansOasis
Hello dear Marian!
It seems we don't have #thewateringhole yet so I'm sending you a photo just taken.
The sun is out now good and strong. It's 2:30 in the afternoon and a lot of the snow has melted!
However, temps are in the 20's. Brrrrr.

@DreamMachine yes Etsy is great with giving refunds due to fake companies
@Ms.Persnickety beautiful
@Ms.Persnickety wow that copper color is amazing
@CutePolypremum oooh lovely snowy crystal-y light and your window film looks great too!! I worked today but Iβll make sure to get a watering hole post up and running early tomorrow!
@GracedStrapwort I feel you on the snow part. I live in Vermont. We received some of the white stuff too. βοΈβοΈ
