Just a quick appreciation post for my snake plant πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ

🌱 This was my first snake plant & it was given to me by a friend and weirdly enough has been one of the most enjoyable to watch grow!

🌱 I was under the impression these guys were slow growers, but damn lately mine has really grown!

@elisenavidad my impression is that the speed of growth is directly related to how much light they get, which you must already know since your is growing so great! lol but my point is is that I think because they are often sold as low light plants people are always sticking them in a dark corner and they do t grow much. I had mine for years, literally freakin years, on a stand in my dining room by a low lit north facing window. It barely grew. In the past 6 months I moved it to my office window which is bright, not direct light, but still bright and faces south west. I have had 3 to 4 new leaves grow and I took a leaf cutting and have propagated a new plant from the leaf. It’s still very tiny but it’s growing! 🐍
She’s beautiful. And she looks so healthy! Congratulations on the growth!
Oh wow! I didn’t know that they had this kind. It’s so beautiful and I need one 😝
@JazzyGardeNerd awh thank you πŸ₯Ή
@Ninabeena yes you do!! I’d share if we were closer 🀣😭
@nellz4estfairyz you’re so right tho! Everywhere they’re sold as low light, but the other day I saw some video about how just because they’re low-light and drought β€œtolerant” doesn’t necessarily mean they prefer that! So I decided to take it for a spin and a week later there’s insane growth!?
@elisenavidad wow. What did you do differently to get that growth?
@nellz4estfairyz I upped the frequency of watering schedule and put it in west window that gets about 6-8 hours of bright light! I have a huuuge awning over my window so it’s very filtered light
@nellz4estfairyz it seems to be thriving now! We’ll see as time goes on though, it’s only been about a week.
@elisenavidad that’s so nice when you find β€œthee spot” for a plant. And while we are taking 🐍 plants I have watered my snake plant. It was dryyyy. Like crunchy dry soil. 🀣
@nellz4estfairyz bahahaha oh man it was ready huh?? Check it in a couple days, maybe it needs more frequent watering too!?
@elisenavidad oh we don’t want to push the watering limits here…. I have already increased my water schedule! (We went through a little dry spell 😬) I went from roughly 2017-2022 ish mostly forgetting to water my plants. Now this guy gets water at least every few weeks! 🀣 the best part is that this guy lived through the years of no water. He’s like an air plant. lol
Your snake plant is beautiful continue to provide bright light and if you haven’t done so, already, fertilize once every 6 months. I had my snake plant for a year, and this is the result of constant bright light and fertilizer!
@SweetAzurebluet thank you much! This is very helpful!
I have to ask! Is the stick you have placed in the pot so you can easily tell their growth? Or to encourage tall growth?
@LoyalYellowrose it’s actually how I tell the moisture level! If it comes out wet then I need to hold
Off on watering & if it’s dry then I go from there!
I am definitely going to start using this tip! My boy friend thinks hes helpful some days and goes to water every plant πŸ˜… He doesn’t get it but maybe he’d check the sticks first! Thanks!
@LoyalYellowrose oh shoot that’s sweet of him but that would stress me out!! Bahaha sounds like he needs a personal plant or two to care for πŸ˜‚πŸ©΅ I just use the kebab sticks from the grocery store!
