Morning Donna!! And everyone else !!! Cheers to who ever is drinking coffee with me ! Next week the lows in the 50’s will have to bring everything else inside soon!!! I did purge a bunch… next spring I’ll be ready for more !!! 😂
Does everyone else have their plants inside yet??
@Hoyaobsessed I have one succulent that’s coming inside in the next couple of weeks and all the rest are on their own! (Nowhere to put them so the two big pots get replanted every year).
@BabyChia44 you still have time. 😀
@SunSoilLove ohhhh what do you have in your big pots now? I am considering doing some cold hardy succulents in some nice big pots next spring… and then I considered doing some cool pots with nothing but different hens and chicks!!
@Hoyaobsessed big pots (matched set of pic 1) have dying remnants of what they looked like a couple months ago .. hens and chicks will survive and a couple other things maybe 🤔 the dracena were new this year and I should prob pull them.
Pic 2 I cannot move (pot weighs a LOT without soil) and will likely lose. 😢
Hey yall good morning!
@Hoyaobsessed this guy comes in every year.
@RealSimpleMama 👋 hey Sarah ☕️ cheers
#TheThread @SunSoilLove @Hoyaobsessed Good Morning to the early birds! Although I‘m not one of them, it’s a lovely Friday-eve. Just finished watering my plants since there were only 12 it was done rather quickly. Now I need to get a few more Zzzz’s one and a half hours just isn’t enough!! I will be back a little later after the plant mail has arrived! Stay tuned 😂🤣😅
@SunSoilLove yes those pencil cactus plants grow like crazy!! Kinda evasive!! But I do love euphorbias !!! Your mixed pot does look great!! I have the puma purple fuzzy Jew taking over my flower bed … I’ve already started moving it in clumps to the back yard… it would look good in that pot yiu have the I think it’s ice plant… the sun stress on it is a pretty deep purple … I’m going to redo my front bed in spring . Dig out all the Jew.
Could i get them planty updates going? :)

Anywho BUNCH OF NEW GROWTH!

Nummer eins is the Monstera obliqua cf. cuyabeno! Extremely satisfied with this monsty. Grows like heck, fenestrates like a regular obliqua peru but havit like an adansonii

Philo FB, PLEASE pray that this one has some green 🤞😔

Homalomena sp. 'Silver Red'. I dunno what's up with this one, it's on STEROIDS. New leaf AND another bloom!

Anthurium waroc seedling. Starting to look a tad more like it's mature counterpart

Philo Paraiso. Love how the variegation comes in like a reverse Philo FL Ghost :)
Good morning sweet peeps on #TheThread ! And yes,, FriYay EVE!
Coffee indeed is in hand and my 🎶 🎸🎼 🎹 playing 💃❤️🕺

Had a cold 39 this am here and YES my plants have been inside for some time now. Couldn’t wait..

My split leaf from outside is still happy (inside now) and just look, new leaf popping out! My Tortum is out of control reaching for the ceiling, its new goal I suppose.🫣 and still have three orchids still in bloom. Love the little “pansy” like faced one.

Everyone have a fantastic Thursday. Watering the jungle plants today and cleaning house to prep for the weekend activities. 😏
As i said, loads.

Begonia dracopelta bottom part after chop. TWO growths! Baby leaves are vry cute

Ficus shivereana, this one has grown a heck lot in full sun in a cramped pot. Evidence is in the green new stem [oh and there's a whitefly infestation on this too]

Anubias 'Pinto' mother plant FINALLY happy after transferring to my humidity tank. Even a 83% avg humidity ain't enough for some.

Yall think i can grow this Pep prostrata cutting i proplifted? 👀 I believe some of you may know i am terrible with peps
@CourtlyKingfern HUGE sheath for a HUGE Thau! Love it!

Oh and i've nvr seen a tortum put out a runner bfr 🤔. I know scinds and monsteras does, didn't know philos could too
Fsmr Greg doesn't want my photos in my first post 🤔

Oh yeh and my lil brother pulled this baby out of a pokemon 151 card pack!

Plus bonus closeup of the photo he took of charmander, HE'S BREATHING FIRE AND SCARY 😱😂.

All fear Godzilla Charmander
@Araceae off to work and can’t wait to get a break to look at all the awesome plants you posted! 😍
Good morning too #TheThread . So nice of @SunSoilLove to get the ball rolling in our wonderful hosts absence. I do hope you’re going to take some clippings of that lipstick plant it’s beautiful. I’m in the same boat as @CourtlyKingfern with the weather 😫 Though I see she’s got a blooming frenzy going on inside. Hope everyone has a great day and to see our main host back very soon.
@SunSoilLove good morning! Love you potted plants outdoors! Especially the mixed pot. Just gorgeous!!
I have always wanted to try this :
I have 3 old type water bowls & pitchers I would love to drill holes in one and put dirt in for a display of succulents for outdoor zen area I have at my back door. Just need to get help with the container being drilled out.
@CourtlyKingfern ask @HeraMonstera how to drill pots; she does it often.
Like this with colorful ones
@SunSoilLove good to know, I have seen some say put a tape on the place to drill and use a particular drill itself. Like for tiles maybe.
@Hoyaobsessed good morning 🌞 wishing you a fantastic Thursday!
@RealSimpleMama hey Miss Sarah! Hope you week has gone smoothly and we are almost there!! To FriYAY!! 🙃
@CourtlyKingfern ooohhhhh I likey!!!! 🌟
@Ms.Persnickety rest up dear and see you in the evening! Only 12! To water 🙌🏻😌
@Araceae man you got a lot of plant growth going on all different places! I love them. Love that blushing philodendron! (Last pic)🙌🏻

I think the Tortum of mine might get a chop at some point. I don’t really want to put it on a pole! 🫣 I mean I think that would take away from the look of the plant itself. Unless I could find a talk clear one.
@BabyChia44 I am jealous that you can wait a bit to put your plants inside. Speaking of West Central Fla. - I visited Clearwater Fla once.
It’s gorgeous there. Stayed at the Sandpearl Resort! Loved it. But went in Oct. and perfect weather at the time.
@Hoyaobsessed Good morning Alavone!! No ma'am it's STILL hot here!🥵 Highs 87° - 93° Lows in the upper 60's 😭 I'm in desperate need of a crisp Fall day. My plants are happy though so I guess it's not that bad.
@princesspitstop wow, can we switch temps for a wee bit! 😍😜 but that high is real high. WOW!! 🤯
Always nice to keep our plants happy even when hot! Do you use a humidifier?
@CourtlyKingfern I found a ton of videos on YouTube on how to drill holes in pots. I have done it myself without any previous experience. And you don’t need a cordless drill necessarily! I didn’t use any water either although the pot got quite hot and the bit that was drilled out almost burned my fingers when I tried to pick it up after it fell out. Here’s the video I found hope it helps! https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.youtube.com/shorts/eQpexNOfLxc&sa=U&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwiGgb_j_KiQAxUL38kDHcQEIy0Qma4LegUIjQEQAg&usg=AOvVaw3YVsmH9GRT-TRveJUuBFmB
@Ms.Persnickety oh thanks, yes.. perfect info and will research before I do
@CourtlyKingfern No need for a humidifier. For instance today we are at 74% humidity and inside I've got everyone snuggled up close to each other. I've been complaining about the heat but I was also thinking, later in the season, while everyone else is buried under a blanket of snow and black ice we'll be chilly but still doable.
@princesspitstop well after I text I got to thinking I bet your humidity is high too!
That’s nice not to need a humidifier but I can also think of just being soaked with humidity too!
Speaking of snow, the weather guys keep saying we are going to have a pretty snowy winter this year. Guess I will find out. Been trying to stock up on things to fix or have if no electricity. I do not get out or drive in it. Although I can but won’t need to.
@CourtlyKingfern Like Bread and milk for those milk sandwiches? Lol I've lived on the East Coast and every threat of bad weather the store shelves were cleared out! 😁 Oddly I kinda miss it.
@princesspitstop yes, people go nuts about the bread and milk deal here. lol 😁
@CourtlyKingfern you can rig a makeshift tile saw by running water over the pot. I have drilled pots in my sink with the water trickling. Just be careful because of course the drill is electric, but also the water will spray everywhere once the bit is spinning.

I have used a mortar bit, like for drilling brick, and it chewed a nasty jagged hole. For a nice clean circle I have had more success with just a regular bit and a lot of patience. It can take a really long time and get very hot so drill a bit and then rest, drill a bit more and repeat. If the surface is really hard and the bit skips around you can start with a mortar bit just to break the surface and then switch to a regular bit.
@SunSoilLove
@CourtlyKingfern In Upstate South Carolina we were never locked down for longer than a day before it all mostly melted and we were able to leave again. I'm sure you being out in the middle of nowhere it gets a bit worse. Frozen and snapped electrical lines and all that mess?
@HeraMonstera thank you very much! My son can help me with this I am sure. 👍🏻
@princesspitstop correct I live in the boondocks for sure, and our road is last on the list. The longest I have been without power is a week. Hopefully I do not see that this year. But trying to be prepared. Ice is definitely the worst !
@CourtlyKingfern UGH yeah I think I'd rather have heat. Let's have a moment of silence for the Almanac being wrong and for a mild winter. It's worth a shot. 😕💕
@princesspitstop 🙏🏻
A wonderful 🌄 to all!Furnace went on last night since the low here was 32 degrees. 🥶 Holiday cacti are STILL putting out growth! Much more this year than last at this time. All other plants are happy with the 🌞 today, despite the cooler weather. Hope all have a good day. 🤗
@HeraMonstera knew you had the 411 😄
@CourtlyKingfern WOW! Does your very tall tortum…runner? new leaf? have any support or is it just going pretty much straight up without help? Amazing!! And your split leaf is just magnificent 👏 🫶💕
@GracedStrapwort Deb you cactus’s look fabulous and love your plant corner!
And burrrr… 32!!!
I had 38 and they are calling for a possibly of frost overnight. Not a winter fan at all.
You have a great afternoon!
@ILoveMyPlants I am going to to prop the heck out of that succulent with the light green leaves that I cannot remember the name of even though one of our awesome threaders has already told me once. 😬
@DreamMachine Thank you- ha! No runner just yet, plant is just stretching to my ceiling. 🫣 and yes, it puts out a start of another leaf pretty much before the last one has totally opened. No support as of yet. And I really don’t want to add for the aesthetics of the plant itself.
My split leaf is old old. But thankfully it keeps on keeping on with new leaves every now and again. 🙌🏻
@princesspitstop Ha ha my hubby and I always laughed about the bread and milk being gone oldly enough it still is 🤣
@ILoveMyPlants Old habits die hard 😂
@SunSoilLove @Hoyaobsessed I did say I‘d be back. @CourtlyKingfern Holy cow, your Monstera is a true Monster. I‘m in complete awe! Looking at the plant and the chair next to it! What size pot is it in?? And of course the Philodendron Tortum is looking fantastic 🤩😍🥰🤩😍🤩😍. I 🩷🩷 your Orchids sooo gorgeous and the colors to die for. Now to change the subject, plant mail has arrived and the latest addition to the oasis is the Philodendron Tortum. I’m very excited to finally get the plant. So it was shipped on the 8th of October, the soil is still wet, this means that I‘m not going to water it today! (as Greg. is recommending) My question is do I really need to wait 6-8 weeks before repotting it into a terracotta pot? Currently it will be quarantine and sitting in the Bathroom since there are no other plants in there. Oh almost forgot, if you look closely at the second pic you’ll see tiny little roots poking out of the drainage holes on the side of the plastic pot. That’s why I am wondering about the 6-8 weeks?? I‘d be very grateful for any tips, TIA!!!!
@Ms.Persnickety thank you so much for you compliments. However the big plant is not a monstera, it’s a split leaf philodendron. It’s about 38 yrs old and it’s in a pot that is 14” wide. The chair beside it is my own rocker chair when I was 3 yrs old. So very old like the plant.. 🤭 and me!

Oh so glad you have a Tortum plant you will indeed love it. And no you should wait approx a week and then repot your plant. Give it time to adjust to its new environment. And as far as water goes. Treat it like a succulent. It does not like to sit in water. So let it totally dry out and then water thoroughly until it goes through the drainage holes at the bottom & let it Drip dry. It likes just being under a grow light or indirect lighting.

Information says number #1 kill for these plants is overwatering.

Enjoy your new plant! You got this. 🙌🏻
I have included what soil I have mine in.
@CourtlyKingfern Omg I love this arrangement idea with the colorful idea! You could use a brighter colored jelly been plant, with some kind of orange/green sedum adolphi or sedum ‘shooting stars’ , or sedum adolphi ‘gold dust’ & keep that euphorbia cactus for its texture and it would be chefs kiss ! 🤌🏻🤤
@TidyTigerpear thank you! And yes, I really was showing for the container only. And hope once my container is ready I can get ideas for plants to put in it!! 🙌🏻
Bosch HDG12 1/2 in. Diamond Hole Saw https://a.co/d/0SJmhEJ here is what you want for drilling in things like tile porcelain ceramic brick glass and more. This is the 1/2” size which should be about right for a drain hole , but if you want different just search it. Id suggest sticking with bosch or another name brand. Milwaukee delta dewalt etc @CourtlyKingfern

I think your plant is a vg purslane isnt it @SunSoilLove
@CourtlyKingfern all you need to do is hold a wet sponge against the side while you drill. Dont even ring it out just dunk it and hold it against the bit on the surface being drilled. If it starts to get hot stop and rewet
@CourtlyKingfern Thank you so very much for your invaluable support. And for sharing your knowledge I will be sure to follow your advice! Thank you again!!
@TheConservator Thank you so much for your info. And hopefully in spring I can get to work on this project! Filed your info for the future! 🙌🏻😘
@CourtlyKingfern oh no i dont have a blushing. That one's the Paraiso. Tbh i dont like super common plants, they're just everywhere and it gets quite boring 🥱. Philo erubescens 'Gold' for example [also known as Malay Gold and Imperial Gold] is commonly used for landscaping. I don’t wanna waste money on a plant that is literally growing right outside my house
@CourtlyKingfern 38 years! 🤯 Man they've been through a LOT of world events
@princesspitstop just curious, what counts as a 'standard' crisp fall day? 🤔

If there's one thing i don't understand, it's seasons. Like how do yall tell when falls here or when spring stops
@Araceae as far as seasons in my area… FALL to me starts with what I have heard people here say it’s Indian summers.. cooler nights and somewhat warm days… and then the leaves on trees start to change colors and shortly afterwards the colder weather settles in and by then all the leaves are gone from trees. Given way to winter cold.

Spring here is almost the same way…. But the beginning of buds on trees start to show and lots of spring color of trees and spring flowers start blooming. As the weather slowly warms up again.
The birds chirp happily in spring as you make your way outside your door.
This is spring to me. Then when it is warm at night and day it’s summer here.

I am sorry do you not have this type of weather at all?
@CourtlyKingfern nope. Perpetual summer. At most we have dry monsoon and wet monsoon. Which is simple. Dry monsoon= hot days, short periods of drizzle [usually]. Wet monsoon= still hot days, torrential wet hell
@Araceae I am just now looking at your weather there! Yes you definitely have a totally different type weather than where I am.

This is a bit of info in VA here for fall: https://www.virginia.org/plan-your-trip/seasons-and-climate/fall/fall-foliage-report/

Ahh ok. Cool you guys have Cherry Blossoms! Here they'll never survive our climate, unless one of the public gardens get them in and put them into their cool houses :( . Occasionally garden centres would sell them, but they're super expensive and hard to keep
@Araceae Oh ok well the weather here in Texas we don't really have seasons either but the weather does change for a few months. Usually the weather man tells us when Fall or winter is here lol but for us Fall has been here the weather just doesn't indicate it yet. For me Fall starts when the first cool front comes in. The air is drier, not so humid. To me it feels crisp outside. 🥰 it's the absolute best! Sometimes it gets so humid here especially where I used to live in Houston and we were close to the Gulf of Mexico. Gulf of America. Whatever we're calling it these days. The humidity is bad in the Summer. It's so heavy it makes it hard to breathe sometimes. Fall is definitely my favorite time of year but because of a ridge of high pressure right now in the northern part of the state it isn't allowing colder air to reach us down here. It's coming but it's running late. 😕
@Araceae Your weather is very similar to me as far as temperature and humidity goes but one difference is we don't get a lot of rain. We're definitely in a drought right now. Does your weather stay pretty much the same temperature all year round?
@princesspitstop most of the time it stays abt 32°C [89.6°F] although it does sometimes dip to 28°C daily high [82.4°F] or increase all the way to 35°C-ish [95°C]. Nighttime generally is around 24-28°C [75.2°F-82.4°F]
Once last year or smt it hit a chilling 25°C daytime high [77°F] 🥶. First time seeing people here donning a winter jacket lol
