@DesertGreen visiting this place gave us so many ideas haha even their vegetable garden is so so slay!!
Thanks for sharing! Photos
@CourtlyKingfern it’s called redleaf exotics!! In this tiny tiny town called Morrison, be sure to set up an appointment as it’s on their property!!
Oooh i love Nepenthes! You guys up in the US are soo lucky, soo many species and hybrids! Here in Singapore we don't get so many, or as big, although they are mostly dwarf-ish species so i'm not complaining
Love the veitchii and variegated anthurium too!
@Araceae we are so grateful to have so many wonderful collectors and caretakers here in the us and multiple nurseries trying their hardest to keep carnivorous plants alive!! As I’m sure you know a lot of the North American species are dying out due to overdevelopment of the swamp and bog lands to make new houses :/ people like Brian and dom here at redleaf are just some of the many growers who are just as passionate as anyone I’ve met
Oh yeh that reminds me, i was looking at another carnivorous plant shop's website in the US earlier [Carnivero]. Was curious to see if i could import Nepenthes in the future, since the ones in the states are always soo good looking. Apparently without a CITES permit for Appendix II [with the exception of some seeds and TCs], a minimum spent of $1K [USD i think] and a lot of shipping fees, i can't :(
@gothgardener gotta love the native species. My country has a species of aroid, Cryptocoryne xtimahensis, found only in a pool [made by a manmade dam the Japs built in 1940-smt], on Bukit Timah hill here. Being a hybrid [a natural cross, C.griffithii x C.cordata i believe] with a odd-number of chromosomes, it can't sexually reproduce, so the entire population is just clones of each other. One large tree falling is all it needs for it to be wiped off the face of the earth. Really interesting
@Araceae and woah that is actually super cool I’m gonna look into that plant!!!
@gothgardener oh no the import/export thing is more regarding international laws about plants. For importing plants, you need a permit of export [provided by the seller or transhipper], and import permit [may or may not be provided] and a CITES permit [may or may not be provided]. The CITES permit is only for species listed under any of the CITES Appendices for endangered species, with the lists II and III being allowed for sale under certain regulations and permits, and I being completely off limits, unless with special permission, or for educational/research/zoological purposes
@Araceae oh woah yeah i guess i didn’t even consider that! And i guess it also has to pass some check to make sure it’s not invasive or has any pests brought along with it?
@gothgardener I love it, and so happy you got to see this. 🀯🀯
But I had no idea it’s at someone home?!? But good to know. And I assume this is the best time of year to go?!?
Thanks for the info
@CourtlyKingfern you’re always able to book an appointment but i think they do an open house at least once a year! They keep it posted on their website months in advance if they’re having an event!
@gothgardener the import/export permits are mostly to keep track of what plants are being brought in, like if it's invasive or illegal. There's another cert you need that i forgot to put in called the Phytosanitary Certificate, THATS to prevent introduction of critters, pests, viruses, bacteria and fungi. CITES deals directly to endangered species
Oh wow 🀩 amazing plants and pics!! Thanks for sharing!
@Araceae ill nevef remember the name of the place but im sure i can find it. But theres whats considered to be the best of the best cp place in south america that ships workdwide. But because its best of best its not cheap stuff and it goes FAST! Not everythings high dolkar but it starts mid range
Places like carnivero get alot if their stuff there that they dont grow themselves
@gothgardener Those are amazing guys!! I just yesterday got my first CP! A cute little Ping! 😁 I can't believe that Pitcher is the size of your hand!!! 🀯
@Araceae i remembered it, Borneo Exotics.
@princesspitstop thats still a tiny pitcher by standards. Some get bug enough to trap jungle rats and even small monkeys supposedly
Big as a mans upper body 😱
@TheConservator WHATTT?? Now that's wild. I'm sure everyone mentions Little Shop of Horrors when they see them!
@TheConservator Now I'm going to have to go on a little road trip!
Oh man yoyr close! And im pretty sure they are open to the public! Well part anyway
It seams like carnivero has one of those huge nepenthes in one of their displays
Omg I’m so jealous!! Where is this place?? I’m near Memphis!
@princesspitstop good luck with your little butterwort ☺️☺️
@Boymom-plantmom it’s in Morrison about 20 minutes south of McMinnville! Just be sure to schedule an appointment with the owners dom and Brian!
@TheConservator hmm on my side of searching it's a Sri Lankan company [not South American]? Oh and it appears to be a wholesaler too
@gothgardener I’d love to be added to your tags. These are WONDERFUL.
@DreamMachine i gotchu- added :) We have all sorts of plants but carnivores and succulents are my hyper fixation and Erika like more of the leafy houseplants like aroids and such and we both work together on our year round garden!
Those are so amazing! Those carnivorous plants are phenomenal! I at first just saw the photos and didn’t read the post (yet). I was shocked at how amazing and how much care went into growing them, that big! This might be a clichΓ©, but seriously I just get a little shop of horrors in my mind. I LOVE IT! πŸ₯°
