Good afternoon #TheWateringHole gang!! Gorgeous sunny 🌞 day here with temps in low 70’s β˜€οΈ 😊. Noticed the peduncles on my Hoya callistophylla are thicc 😜!!! This overachiever has multiple pedunkydunks, and 1 bustin’ thru an existing one! 🀭 I’m always surprised at how much winter activity there is in my Oasis when the *experts* tell us these are the slow, if any, growing months. My Hoyas and orchids don’t agree 🀣. I know plants under light don’t have seasons. I only have lights on my plants that aren’t near a window. Maybe because I’m in a mild climate & my place is bright enough to not have a winter. Curious as to what you’re observing in your Oasis? Also adding on a pic of the philo Rojo Congo that I recently separated from 2 Birkins that were all growing in the same pot!!! @DreamMachine asked for pic, like last week…lol can’t rush into these things! #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #HoyaHangout #Hoya #PhiloFlock #NewGrowth #Philodendron
@MariansOasis ooh wow look at those pendunkydunks!! So very thicc πŸ€©πŸ˜„ I have found exactly the same thing with growing in winter. My plants don’t stop! So many things that experts say are actually geared toward outdoor gardening and someone just decides to say the same thing for indoor gardening without thinking about it!

Look at that! That was a nice score in your birkin pot!! I’ll take one too πŸ˜‚πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

I got really excited this morning because one of my red marantas is flowering!! πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯° So tiny and delicate. And a pain in a** to take a picture of, I tell you what! πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ my camera will not focus πŸ€ͺ And I might finally join the holiday cactus bloom club, on my TEENY TINY thanksgiving cactus cutting 🀣

Please add @CactusAdjacent to your list, if you would my dear!
Agreed! My plants grow the most in fall and early winter- I think it’s because the angle of the sun is lower?
@MamaLinne I’ve thought the same thing because the southern windows are getting full sun from mid morning until 3:30 - 4:00 ish.
@DreamMachine outdoor rules to indoor πŸͺ΄ πŸ™„ πŸ˜’πŸ€¨! So crazy. And then the internet world gloms onto the myths and it gets perpetuated now via AI πŸ€–. Research more than one source is my mantra these days. πŸ˜€ today’s special purchase 1 Rojo Congo with every 2 Birkins please 😜. I love your tiny maranta flower 🌺! So sweet πŸ₯Ή. And congrats on teeny bud on teeny TG cactus!! πŸ‘πŸ™ŒπŸŽ‰
@CactusAdjacent sorry, I thought you were already on the list! Will double check next time πŸ‘πŸ™‚β€β†•οΈ
@MariansOasis exactly! I’m pretty sure all the main basic articles (like the Sill, spruce, BH&G) just all copy each other and they’re all mostly wrong πŸ˜‘ (But kinda wrong like a broken clock, if you know what I mean. Sometimes they’re right on one thing…but not usually on purpose πŸ˜‚)

When I’m searching for plant info I often add β€œuniversity extension” to the end of whatever my search is so I get results from actual educational sources, master gardeners etc. One of my searches this morning was, β€œZamioculcas zamiifolia native habitat university extension,” for example.
Thicc peduncles save truncals! @DreamMachine maybe you need to use your Christmas present!! πŸ”¬ My oasis has a huge burst in autumn; I think that’s their ideal enviro. Right now, they are all still pushing but have slowed down. I think combo of less sunlight (the only β€œdirect” we get in winter is from random reflections off of buildings all the way across the river) and cooler evenings because we usually have to crack a window. Don’t get me started, but our AC doesn’t get below 72 in the summer time. πŸ₯΅ The plants love it but we, being not lizards, enjoy the 60s for sleeping while we can get it. Once MadamΓ© Soleil comes back up to our side of the planet, we’ll get afternoon sun from about 5 til 8 or 9. The alocasias seem to really love that. My eyes, not so much. 😎
@DreamMachine oooh what a good idea!! Will add that extension πŸ™Œ
@Jho From what I understand reflective light is good too! But I hear ya on the glare! Our kitchen is very very light gray, which, when the sun hits it is like blazing white! We have to wear our sunglasses…. at night!! 😎 πŸ•ΆοΈ πŸ•ΆοΈ 🎢
@MariansOasis beautiful
@DreamMachine it’s so cute. Wow
@MariansOasis πŸ₯° Thats a lil sneak peek of the β€œhow to research” planty 101 post thats still all up in my head. πŸ‘ˆπŸΌπŸ‘ˆπŸΌ
@MariansOasis beautiful plants! The veins on the Hoya and the new philo leaf are 🀌🏻! Love it! I can’t wait to see your Hoya flowers. πŸͺ΄
@FitBrowallia Thank you Jonchel, it’s so very little!
@Jho ugh! We also prefer cooler sleeping temperatures! My hubby and I always have the window open to sleep regardless of the weather. 🌧️ ❄️

I took some microscope pictures of one of my golden pothos, just to see if the scratches I could see were pests or mechanical. (Looks to be not pest) I’m still working out how to use it best, my phone’s camera keeps messing up my pictures by doing the autofocus when I just got it focused perfectly πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ So this is not the *best* pic I can do, I will prevail over the technology!
@DreamMachine oh I know this!! I am teaching Nadia!!! Everyone gather round. So when you are in viewfinder, touch where you want to focus. You probably already know that part. But if you touch and HOLD, it will lock the focus to that position.
@DreamMachine I need a pocket microscope pic of a bug please 😁. I’m fascinated! πŸ€“
@Jho 🀣🀣🀣
@Jho πŸ˜±πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ‘ˆπŸΌπŸ«ΆπŸΌπŸ₯³ Yasssss!!! Thank you! I always did that by accident, and had no idea how to make it happen πŸ˜‚πŸ₯°
@Dawgfreak lol!! I’m searching! Haven’t found one yet. Maybe I’ll try to catch a fungus gnat 🀣🀣
@DreamMachine I’d be down to look at it! πŸ˜‚πŸ€“πŸ‘€
@DreamMachine Nadia you should be in NY it’s 23 degrees with winds of 19 mph
@Dawgfreak I’m with Sonya I want to see one not on my babies
Also Josh @Jho I was so excited about locking the focus that I didn’t respond to the hilarity of your comment, so: BAHAHAHA !!πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚
@FitBrowallia we definitely have had the window open in those conditions, but the one time we didnt was when we were at my hubby’s family’s home in Colorado when it was -11Β°F πŸ˜‚ That was pretty cold! πŸ₯Ά
@DreamMachine ❄️ yes that is cooooold
@Jho thanks for the touch and hold lesson!! πŸŽ‰
@DreamMachine @MariansOasis I wanted to do a Housewives quote but I wasn’t sure who would get it. πŸ˜… β€œEveryone come sit down, this is gonna be so fun!” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
@Jho 🀣
