I think my money tree still have its band around the base...
I think my money tree still have its band around the base I hate to dig her up! I wish I knew about the band when I 1st repotted her 5 months ago hell I was late taken the twist tie off because I didnβt know it was supposed to be removed #MoneyTree #GregPlantShop #GregGang
@stephonicle she seem like she struggling to push out new growth
I get ya with this mate! Though my ABSOLUTE pet hate is finding out a plant has one of those fabric death cages on!! π€¬π€¬π€¬ Is such lazy plant rearing! Fine if it's an outdoor plant (the soil's mcrobiome will rot it away) but for houseplants, which we pot in sterile substrate, they're a nightmare!! At least the plastic ones you can see more easily (though I've yet to find one in the UK, it's always those awful felt things!).
From what little I know of Pachira they're pretty much always tied at the base? (that's how they get that pretty plaited effect but it does seriously suck!).
It's no biggie though DG! It's all part of the #faafo fun of plant parenthood! π€£ I bet you never forget to check for one ever again now!! π x

@stephonicle her baby leafs she had when I got her never went anywhere I see then just sitting there still small they did try to push up and out like these new leafs
@JenniB81 I will never buy one again
From what you've said about the new growth it does sound like the roots are restricted (same thing happens when you have a plant that's really root bound! The new leaves start to come in stunted and really small). I'd go with @stephonicle, I know it's a pain in the arse but it's best to remove it now and let her recover π₯° she'll be fine once it's off and she's had a bit to get used to the extra space π x
@JenniB81 yeah because she should be a lot bigger then this Iβm glad she been doing well tho but I believe itβs because of her rich soil she in
I agree with @JenniB81 about the new growth likely being smaller due to restricted roots. I also hate it when they do that to plants so they'll grow in "prettier". They're already pretty dammit! They do the same with braided cylindrical snake plants. Reminds me of how Japanese geishas & young girls had their feet bound because small feet were deemed more attractive, yet it caused horrible deformities & most couldn't walk past age 30.
@stephonicle π€£ go to bed
@SvelteKingfern thank you for that information
@WonderWoman13 Iβve had mine for almost 6 months and if the band kills the plant Iβm lucky mines is still alive
@SuperbRaspfern I low key want to see if she can survive with it on her.. if she lasted this long with it on I wonder if I even need to remove it at all. the soil she in is very rich it grows more mushrooms then the money tree grow new leafs.
@SuperbRaspfern I will eventually remove the band repotting isnβt my fav thing to do
@SvelteKingfern a genius at work ππ₯Ήπ sobbing in my feels AHHH SOPHIE AHHH amazing thank you smπ€©
@SuperbRaspfern THE GAMBLING MAN!!! Ooooooohhhhhh β¨π«π
@TracyH9964 itβs another one check at the base of the root
@stephonicle oh my gosh the giesha π₯Ήπ
@DrGreen the twist tie isnβt the first repot story weβve had!! π So far we have found a pair of gloves (plastic disposable Dr office gloves) and another pot within a pot (it was sold like that at a nursery π₯Ί)!! So rubber band is now on the list π€©β¨π«πͺ΄
You're making me blushing π€£ @Prentyce
@DrGreen I didnβt know this about the rubber bands. Guess Iβm digging mine up to remove it. Thanks for the info:)
@SuperbRaspfern π€ idk how to feel about that name
Hi Gambler, sounds good! Keep me posted on her. I am honored that you are okay with that. Also, I heard your song today and I thought of you and smiled π€ @DrGreen
@SuperbRaspfern at me now and see my name
@SuperbRaspfern definitely call me the Gambler because Iβm gambling with these window shelves the top one been up for almost a week I just put the other one up and it slipped 3 times and fell off 1 time π I think itβs good now
You are definite for sure 100% the gambler! Love it though great idea to get the most light you can! Are this suction cupped on? π³ You are a brave man. The risks we take for our plant babies! π @DrGreen
@SuperbRaspfern yes they are suction cups.. I am I risk taker I will admit that
@ResoluteKeylime yes remove it if you see one
@ResoluteKeylime idk because I wonβt be watering mine for two months
Got the sucker!! πͺ Well done mate! π P.s. I hate repotting too!! π€£ That's why I always have AY LEAST two dozen plants on my repot list at any one time! π€£π€£
Aside from this we girl, Lolita (P. Painted Lady) I noticed after repotting her a couple of months ago that her new growth is coming in much smaller than before... I misjudged what size of pot to sit her in because I didn't take into account the space that the pole takes up! π€¦ββοΈ So this morning I literally just lifted the ENTIRE plant, rootball, pole and all the soil out on a oner, dropped her in a bigger pot and backfilled. It took 30 seconds, didn't touch the roots at all, and she's done! *Phew* π ) xx
