@livslillies that can be normal during acclimation. Great job on the distilled water! VFTs can sit in water and should 24/7. They also need LOTS of light. Depending on where you are in the world, NW window might not provide enough direct sun. You could always add a grow light.
@Amateurbotany I’m in south east of texas ! i never thought about to amount of light, i just assumed a window would do haha 🀣. thank you for the advice !
SOUTH @livslillies !!!! You have great sun in Texas for this little guy!
@Amateurbotany check it outttt
@livslillies hi again Olivia πŸ˜› What kind of soil do you have your VFT in?
@livslillies love it!!!!! I had my VFTs in mason jar setups just like that! I have since planted them in a bog outside. Just an FYI…your VFT probably has a netting on the roots. Once you’ve had it in that spot a couple weeks I would consider repotting in a carnivorous plant soil.
@stephonicle idk whatever it came with ? πŸ«£πŸ˜…
@Amateurbotany one more question, how do i beautify it ? i mean get the browns off without hurting her ?
@livslillies you’re not going to like my response….i leave the dying leaves alone until they are completely black and can be removed very easily
@livslillies the black ones aren't necessarily dead. In the wild VFTs go into a winter dormancy, where the entire plant turns black and shuts down to survive below-freezing temps. You can replicate this by moving the plant to a cold, dark spot in late fall/early winter (like a garage or basement). Return it to the warm sunshine in spring and it will come out of dormancy like a phoenix rising from the ashes lol πŸ¦β€πŸ”₯πŸ€“
@stephonicle cool !!! i had no clue !
Hi!! β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘‹
Joining #cpclubthursday is a wonderful idea, there are so many knowledgeable people there that can help you with all kinds of carnivorous plants!

Here are my tips for fly traps:

πŸͺ°LOTS of light. 6-8 hours of outdoor sun (be careful to not sunburn, so gradually expose) or 14-16 hours under a grow light. They do best outside if you don't have a grow light. They'll do okay on a windowsill alone, but they won't really thrive.

πŸͺ°Distilled or rain water ONLY. The added minerals in tap water can burn the roots, potentially killing your plant. It's also best to keep them in a dish of 1/2" to 1" of the water at all times because they are bog plants native to North & South Carolina.

πŸͺ° Fertilization isn't necessary, think of the plants eating insects as their fertilizer.

πŸͺ° Soil is a mix of perlite and peat moss, UNFERTILIZED. They have long roots so a tall skinny pot is best.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and welcome to being a Carnivorous plant parent!!! :)
@JesssJungle thank you !!! ps. your jungle is beautiful πŸ₯Ή
