Ring of fire philodendron growth discovery

Hey #greggang!

Yesterday @Mindbodyplants posted about how their white princess was putting something out that looked different than a new leaf usually does. To me it looked like a leaf coming out of a sheath, but it wasn't coming out of one attached to a leaf. I thought plants grew from sheaths differently, some were attached to leaves and some weren't. Thanks to her research it turns out it was a new leaf emerging from a cataphyll. @GaryPoopins commented that it's a maturity thing and usually indicates a huge leaf is coming.ย

Well today, as I was looking at one of my ring of fire #philodendron I noticed exactly what we chatted about on that post yesterday! The Mama plant's new leaf is coming from a cataphyll and the baby's new leaf is emerging from a sheath that's attached to the previous one. The more you know, right?

Plants are so freaking cool
Iโ€™ve been watching this one like a total addict for the past week.
@GaryPoopins I feel like the saw tooths take foreverrrr. So worth it though ๐Ÿ˜

I have the first new leaf on my Thai con coming in since I got it a few weeks ago so I've been obsessing over that one as well.
@PlantMompy They totally do! The one above has the cataphyll, which is the second leaf on it to grow that way in as many months. The other one has a new leaf sprouting as well, but from the sheath of another leaf and dammit it is taking forever to go nowhere, fast.
Aww, look at us all learning something new. & check this out I see the leaf emerging!!
