About Hens and Chicks
Common Houseleek is a species of flowering plant in the family Crassulaceae native to the mountains of southern Europe. It is cultivated in Europe for its appearance, and a Roman tradition that says it protects buildings against lightning strikes. It thrives in sandy or gravelly soils and will tolerate poor soils and some drought. It's at its best when planted in groups or massed as a ground cover.

Why does my #hensandchicks grow sooooooooooooooo slow, to the point of there being no growth? I've had her for an entire month and have seen zero growth at all. It's like she's petrified or frozen in time. The only change I made was adding other little sprouts of the same species, which opened slightly and then seemed to be petrified as well. Full story: My house has a bunch of ant colonies around it. When I think I have destroyed all the ants, they continue to thrive. ANT ALERT!!! I literally woke up to 20-30 ants trailing toward my succulent Sunset. They were coming from a crack in my window frame and trailing FAST. I think they were going for the water and aren't damaging her, and eventually went away. Should I move Sunset next time, even though this spot is one of the only ones that meet their needs? Easy plant. I have her in a container with 2 burro-tails and a cactus. She requires very little maintenance. He babies keep on coming. It’s a fun little plant.

I brought it home and it died within days.. not sure if it’s something I did, or if I just got a bad plant. 🤷🏻♀️ oh well!

This came grown out already in a very small pot without drainage, I recommend a pot with drainage because mine browned and it’s been difficult to grow back.
