About Fiddle Leaf Fig
The fiddle leaf fig is a tree from Central and West Africa. The species name, lyrata, refers to the leaves’ shape of a lyre, a small string instrument played in Ancient Greece. The plant has a uniquely and mutually beneficial relationship with specific kinds of wasps. In fact, every plant in the Ficus genus has a unique wasp species which will lay its eggs in the fruits of only its favorite species! 🐝

How to fertilize Fiddle Leaf Fig

Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Fiddle Leaf Fig after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

I need help dealing with this drama queen #fiddleleaffig This plant was a gift and I'm seriously about to give it up 🫠. The plant was healthy for a while, but after I went for a long trip, it simply lost all of its leaves and now it's a naked little thing. I know #fiddleleaffig are dramatic, I'm doing my best not to move it. The vase has drain holes, it's about 3 meters from a Northeast window. I checked the roots and they're healthy, no root routing, but I think the soil is retaining too much water. What is your usual care routine with this plant? What type of soil mix do you use? I'd like to have all the possible tips to try to save it. Thanks 💚

It looks like my fiddle leaf fig is getting worse, not better. The app says not to water it for another 6 days, but it’s yellowing and browning. It’s next to a window, but maybe it is too cold? Please help! (This is my first fiddle leaf.) #FiddleLeafFig

Acclimation issues or more? #FiddleLeafFig Got this plant from Home Depot two weeks ago. In the basic nursery pot it came in (resting on a drainage tray in a “decorative” basket). Bottom leaves have been sagging and dropping a bit, but I expected some of that. It’s in my office, west window, gets direct light in afternoons (northeast US winter now). Two things I’m a little concerned about: first is it really seems root bound (Will show pic below) with uncovered roots up top, and also somewhat unstable in the pot, like it’s not anchored to much soil. This, in turn, is causing it to lean, most typically closer to the (cold) window pane and over the (warm dry) baseboard. Wondering if I should repot so it’s anchored more into the soil to correct the lean/looseness, and/or move it back from window to get it out of the cold window/warm dry heat dynamic (though it won’t get as much direct light)#. Other plants seem to be ok in similar spots.

What other plant parents say

I purchased my Fiddleleaf fig because I read that it cleans the air adds oxygen Also can remove some bad chemicals from its environment and very beautiful. I would recommend that anybody that purchase one feed it organic fiddle leaf plant food according to the directions, made all the difference in growth and leaf quality.

I’ve heard so many horror stories about these but mine has, despite my better efforts, continued to thrive. I mean, it got *forgotten* in the back yard all summer while I was overwhelmed with moving & some renovating. Happy as a clam. Yes, it’s dropped some leaves over the years. Yes, it was once MUCH more lush and is still recovering from near-death a year and a half ago. But it’s still here!
