Port Jackson Fig
About Port Jackson Fig
Did you know that all plants in the Ficus genus produce figs? In fact, the word Ficus quite literally means figs! Even cooler, all figs are pollinated by tiny wasps that use the fruits as a safe place to raise their young. 🐝 Ficus plants also contain latex which emerges as a milky sap when twigs are broken. This latex makes them toxic, so be sure to keep a close eye out if you have children or pets!

How to fertilize Port Jackson Fig
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Port Jackson Fig after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Wow! What a whirlwind! Here is a photo of when I got my weeping fig 1 year ago, 1 month ago, and today. My thrips infestation this July really propelled my love of house plants. I have learned a lot about plants since which has really upped my plant game! I had not experienced any new growth in this plant since I purchased it last year. But after so much research I decided I needed to repot this plant and fertilize. After doing that in August (one month ago) the plant has just exploded with new growth! I had about 30 new leaves! #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #weepingfig #ficus

Any clue why my fiddle leaf fig has browned tips? Got this dude a few weeks back and it was already in this condition so I repotted and have it in a spot that gets 4-5 hours of morning sun and I’m letting it dry out fully before I water it again. Any tips would help. It’s only got the brown tips on one of 3 shoots and it’s every leaf on the one shoot. #FiddleLeafFig #Ficus #help #planthelp #PlantAddict #PlantsMakePeopleHappy

Black spots on new growth? What are these black spots? I know my fiddle leaf fig isn’t doing too well but it seems like more stuff keeps popping up and I’m worried about him. I repotted and checked the roots and they looked fine im just not sure what to do moving forward. #help #FiddLeafFig #Ficus

Is this pot too small for my ruby? Just got it a few weeks ago from a local grocery store, wondering if I should repot? #FicusRuby #FicusFam #repotting #Ficus #FicusFamily #NewPlantMom #NewPlants #NewPlant #questions

Fiddle fig bugs? I’m not sure if I have a bug problem on Figgy my FLF. I don’t see anything moving. Can anyone help identify if there is a mite or bug problem and if so what kind and share recommendations on how to treat it. Neem oil, soap wash? I’ve never dealt with bugs and everything I looked up has not been super clear, in forums people have disagreed about what it looks like and then I come away having more questions. My new leaves have edema which I’m not super worried about (found out my helpful child was watering him, too. 😆) but I noticed three or four tiny holes in the new leaves. The are some small brown patches here and there not a lot but it could be normal. I’m just not sure. After I took some pics later I came back and saw one little moth looking bug but I don’t know if it’s a pest to fiddles. I searched all over Figgy and found nothing else. The spots that I’m showing here are not moving at all even when I touch them. I don’t see bugs but is this a remnant of what they leave behind? I’m paranoid. lol I’ll add more pics in comments. Please help. 😬 #fiddleleaffig #FiddleLeafFig #fiddleleaffigtree #help #ficus

My council tree has a disease. It is turning brown and has white specks in the back of leaves. Help!? #Ficus

Are these spider mite webs? I have a weeping fig which has been losing baby leaves soon after they've unfurled. There's no other visible damage, no red mites or blackish poop spots but I just noticed this tiny web in the middle of the tree. I do currently have predatory mites for thrips - however I don't know if the predatory mites make webs? Any thoughts?? Edited to add a picture of the base of the leaf where it attaches to the stem as there are "waxy" build ups here on all the leaves of the tree? #pestcontrol #ficus #ficusgang

FUN FACT: Some ficus grow on TREES. As in, a tree grows on a tree. As they mature, the roots grow down its host tree. When they hit the ground, they widen. This can strangle the host tree. When the ficus trees mature, the roots remain the same, leaving a shaded area under it. Other roots will also grow to the ground from its branches, supporting the tree more. A ficus that grows as such is called a strangler fig. First pic is a young Ficus [microcarpa?] on a palm, second is its roots, third is a mature ficus [might also be microcarpa] #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #OutdoorGrowing #PlantInfo #PlantLove #Ficus

Naked ficus tineke #Ficus I have had this ficus tineke for about 2 years now, and this past winter had some overwatering issues where the roots looked pretty soggy, so I repotted in new soil (1/3 perlite, 1/3 orchid, 1/3 cactus soil now) but it continues losing lower leaves. I read these like to dry out between watering, so I’ve also started doing that. How can I help this plant stop losing more bottom leaves? I know it’s typical for some loss of bottom leaves, but the tree is half naked, so I’m worried the roots still aren’t doing great. Growth continues! Thank you!
