About Droophead Tufted Airplant

The Scarlet Star is a tropical bromeliad, and one of the most popular ones in cultivation. The colorful blooms in the center of the plant are actually made up of red or orange 'bracts' and the plant only produces tiny white 'true' flowers just before it dies. In the wild, they collect rainwater in the center of their bracts so next time you water, try to mimic nature and leave a small pool for them to drink! 💧

It’s a pretty plant! But kind of boring IMHO… it’s not growing, not declining… great for beginners! (Also, it was a gift and I didn’t pick it, so that might be part of it)

Still on the fence about these. Bought 3 at Home Depot last year. Followed all directions re light and water. One died off. The last 2 and still struggling. Neither has shown any color in over 6 months but I’m still trying.

It is very good at surviving and it dies every 1-3 years, cloning itself in about that amount of time as well and leaving you younger plants. I wish it bloomed more often
