About Calathea 'White Fusion'

Many of the houseplants we used to know as Calatheas now belong to the genus Goeppertia (say that three times fast). These plants have delightfully patterned leaves that come in all sorts of colors and shapes! Commonly known as prayer plants, the leaves of some species fold up at night through a process called nyctinasty meaning night movement! 😴

Calathea 'White Fusion' Humidity Needs →

🪴 Soil

  • If there are multiple plants growing, unpot the plant and gently tug the plants apart, being careful not to disturb too many of the roots. They may be connected by large root segments which you may need to break to free the plantlet.
  • Pot up the new plant in well-draining soil
  • Repot the parent plant back into its original pot

🧐 Troubleshooting

When troubleshooting a sad-looking houseplant, start by checking for signs of distress in its leaves, such as yellowing, browning, or drooping, which can indicate overwatering or nutrient deficiencies.

Inspect the soil moisture; too dry or too wet soil can cause problems.

Ensure the plant is getting the right amount of light, as too much or too little can stress it.

Finally, consider environmental factors like temperature and humidity, and adjust care routines accordingly to revive your plant.

Truly the impossible spoiled brat of the already bratty calathea family. Make sure you have a humidity dome or cabinet ready to go or she’ll stomp on your heart and laugh in your face as she lets spider mites drag her to the underworld

THIS WOMAN IS SO DRAMATIC. I don’t water it for two days and it’s like “I want to die”. Frustrating. But I think if you have a good source of humidity it might like you.

Huge diva she used to look so lush but started crisping and dying because of a spider mite infestation and low humidity. I used a pebble tray to increase the humidity around it and used dish soap and water to kill the mites and shes looking a bit better now - do your research when you get this plant because i didn’t until she started dying

This is my second high maintenance beauty. I thought we were in the clear when I almost lost her to spider mites.

Perhaps cousins of the mites that killed my first plant.

I love this plant because it was my first and I've had to learn so much because of how high maintenance it is.

She and now her twin made me a plant mom.

Gf got this for me as a gift from Hurts Gardens and it was in TERRIBLE shape when it got to us. I would not recommend purchasing from Hurts because the calathea was “Hurts when it got here” as my girlfriend jokingly said. The plant however has bounced back and is doing well. Water with filtered only. Love the beautiful foliage.

I have mixed feeling about this beautiful diva plant. It’s so gorgeous when it’s at its top shape, but as a newbie, I’m still struggling to keep/restore it to its best look. Surprisingly, it doesn’t die on me, just brown very very easy but hanging in there. So after almost half a year of frustration, it’s still here. It’s been pushing out a few new shoots this spring but definitely not back to how it was.

I’m a glutton for punishment and against everyone’s advice I got a White Fusion. It shriveled up and become crispy just as everyone had said she would. I tried humidifiers, my plastic indoor greenhouse.. and she wasn’t having it. Finally i placed her under a glass cloche and she slowly grew all new leaves and is thriving. She will never be leaving the cloche. If you get one of these get a class cloche or put it in a terrarium.
