About Alocasia
Alocasias, commonly known as Elephant Ears, are some of the most common houseplants although their leaves can reach enormous sizes when grown outdoors! 🐘 They typically only support a few leaves at a time (more, when they get more sun!) so don't be concerned if you see an old leaf begin to retire after a new one emerges. They grow out of underground corms which are similar to bulbs, so next time you repot keep an eye out for baby Alocasias! They contain calcium oxalate crystals so be sure to keep them out of reach if you have children or pets! ⚠️

Finding light for Alocasia in your home
Alocasia may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Alocasia in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Alocasia
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Alocasia after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Just as my third leaf begins to unravel the fourth always falls off! I figure this is normal but is there anyway to save the fourth leaf or wait for a little sprout to come if it or is it better to cut it so it doesn’t suck up nutrients? #AlocasiaAddicts

Why does my alocasia grow in such weird directions?! We are south facing and the sun is coming from the “left” side of this photo. Why do the stems not grow vertically?

Help identifying I got this plant at Home Depot on Sunday and Greg keeps identifying it as a swish cheese plant(obviously it isn’t), heart of Jesus, and a heart leaf philodendron. I think it might be a syngonium plant. Please help 🥹

Ordered this alocasia Hilo beauty online and it didn’t survive the trip 😭 trimmed it down and gave it a thorough watering. It looks like it had new growth so wanted to try my hand at rehabilitating this baby. Is this salvageable? Or am I wasting my time? #Alocasia #HiloBeauty
