My DIY plant cabinet has become a propagation station and rescue rehab center. I’m also experimenting with several different prop methods and am looking forward to seeing how things turn out (water, soil, sphagnum). Part 4 of #AlexTriesDIY: the finale of the #DIYgreenhouse! 🥳 I was so excited after today’s earlier part 3 post that I spent the rest of the day working on finishing my knockoff #ikeacabinet! I rearranged my plant cabinet yesterday and decided to dedicate the lower shelf solely to Hoyas. I couldn’t fit all of my Hoyas in there, but I got most of them in! My #PlantCabinet is complete! We repurposed an old china cabinet we got cheap at an estate sale. I moved my rescue plants in to hopefully help all those babies take off. The grow lights are from Amazon. I’ll post the link in the comments. Many eons later… part 3 of #AlexTriesDIY 😅 Hey friends! I’m nearly done with my #ikeacabinet knockoff 🥳 It’s taken a lot longer than I expected—not due to difficulty, but rather due to the ungodly humidity that I’ve absolutely refused to work in lmao. What I’ve done so far (in order of completion): 1. Applied polyurethane white paint to the interior of the cabinet. 2. Applied clear varnish to the interior of the cabinet. 3. Cut a new backboard to replace the flimsy old one. Applied white paint and varnish to the backboard as well, then re-installed it onto the cabinet. 4. Applied clear mold-resistant silicone caulking to seal all of the gaps. 5. Applied weatherstripping around the doorframes. 6. Installed l-brackets for the glass shelf on the upper level of the cabinet and then re-installed the glass shelf. 7. Installed extra large l-brackets on both the top and bottom sections of the cabinet to act as “beams” that my T5 grow lights could hang off of. 8. Installed the T5 grow lights onto the large l-brackets. 9. Drilled a hole in the new backboard for the wires to come out of. Now, all that remains are the finishing touches, like re-installing the large glass front panes for the top and bottom, and re-installing the door stoppers. Hey everyone! Its been a hot minute since i last posted here! My collection had some losses but a few gains as well - gonna be updating my collection here later. X) To sum the last few months up - my plant cabinet SOMEHOW got infested with mealy bugs; hadnt put ANYTHING new in there for at least 2 months and somehow they sprouted out of nothing… my White Princess was hit the fastest and hardest - she didnt make it but i was able to snag a cutting and put it in water & perlite in hopes it sprouts Something. My baby Orbifolia was also hit very hard and it was making the most progress - out of 8 new leaves only one BARELY made it and im thinking of pulling the plug on it as well. The white fusion is still somehow holding on, even though its in a bad shape and debating what i should do with her. My baby zebrina was also hit hard but with an INTENSE neem oil therapy and showers i think i managed to save her. Tbh after all that all my plants were sprayed like crazy with neem oil juwt to be sure lol But Fungus gnats havent been affected by the neem as i hoped for - its why today im toping all my pots with an inch or two with pon (the ones that arent in it already that is)…its been a JOURNEY 😖 Also sunburned the heck out of some of my succulents so that also happened….. It hasnt been all bad tho - my silver dragon alocasia is going wild and didnt get affected by the mealy bugs at all and sprouts a leaf once every few weeks! Got a new albo, this time from a person that knew what they were doing, and a couple weeks later she seems to love the #PlantCabinet and is sprouting two leaves at once!! Though im terrified to put something else in there not to bring any #pests in 💀💀💀 Im gonna end this already long post with a question though! My #Alocasia dragon scale babies are sprouting more and more in their water and leca nest and i was wondering if i can transfer them in a self watering lechuza pot with pon? Since the orbifolia wont be needing it, i figured they might as well! Or should i wait coming spring? Got my Ikea shelf the other day and managed to assemble it today! (And pinch a nerve in the process…) LOOOTS of stuff are to be added but for now i have the lights, a humidifier and and a small fan which will be updated asap; Just so excited to start filling it up ☺️ both my alocasias (the big one lost and Is Loosing some leaves but ive been anticipating that) are in there as well as my calathea! #PlantAddict #PlantShelfie #PLANTMAFIA #PlantCabinet #AlocasiaAddicts #CalatheaCrew

Transferred my albo today, hoping she does better with the variegation in the plant cabinet! Changed the soil with a nice chunky mix in an orchid planter; I was expecting to find root rot because of the white leaf dying away a while ago but honestly all the roots were green and strong and i was very pleasantly surprised but also confused :D Shes currently getting light from those two bulbs but since i have other lights ill stick on the shelves shell be getting better light! Id love to hear any tips and advice from people who have their monsteras in cabinets! Got a dreamy #RoseCalathea yesterday and my first #RubberPlant ✨ if you guys have any specific advice for it i’d love to hear! The calathea i put in a mix of its own soil with pon and the rubber plant in a peat/french bark/perlite mix (cus i ran out of pon lol), both in self watering pots ✨ Also replaced my small humidifier with a tiny waterfal thingie in my #PlantCabinet thats keeping humidity well around 85% without me refilling it ever day, so im super happy with it!! #HappyPlants #selfwateringplanter #PlantShelfie #PLANTMAFIA #PlantTherapy

Let’s see if this helps my begonias and calatheas!!! The grow light didn’t come yet so I flipped the 1 around for now that goes to the other shelf… but I have the humidifier set up with the hydrometer and it will stick to 60% humidity. MY CABINET IS ON ITS WAY HOME!! Omg omg omg I’m so excited! My first #PlantCabinet #humiditycabinet #IKEAGreenhouseAddicts #ikeacabinet #IKEAGreenhouse Rudsta is en route!!!! It’s gonna take me a good month to buy and install alllll the things. Aaaaaah I’ve wanted one for so long!!!
