Happy #freshleaffriday #greggang! Today I finally got some #outdoorgrowing chores done, starting with cutting the flower stalks off my #rhubarb. Our four plants have quickly turned into over twenty with the biggest one putting out these massive leaves! Happy hump day #GregGang 💚 Wanted to share some outdoor gardening photos from the past week. I planted a bunch of coleus in me & my boyfriends front yard, (pic 1) as well as some Angelonia (pic 4) . We have planted some other things as well, I can’t wait for them to fill out.. Picture two, are peony flowers & spyria flowers cut from my mom’s yard. Picture 3 is my cat Dinky taking a cat nap in one of our garden beds, he was so deep in them, I couldn’t even see him lol. #CatsOfGreg #catsandplants #PetsAndPlants #PetsOfGreg And picture 5 is Larkspur, which my mom has grown every year since we started growing things by seed in the yard. This is our fourth year 🙌🏻 I love larkspur it’s such a pretty wildflower ! I have so many other awesome flower photos, but I’ll have to share in another post. I have this one tree inside my fenced yard that gets a lot of shade. I’m so happy I could find the Halcyon Blue Hostas to pair with Black Magic Elephant Ears beneath it. DH is tasked with fixing the retaining wall by making it a foot smaller and backfilling it with soil for the roots and bulbs coming in. I think these two will show well beneath the tree. #MedicinalMonday perhaps? I love growing and foraging for medicinal plants. Anyone else? Always looking to expand my knowledge! These are a few medicinal plants I've stumbled across today. One of my garden favorites for mosquito bites or minor scrapes, my Autumn Joy sedum/stonecrop. It also attracts plenty of bee friends 🐝 rip open a leaf and apply to bite or minor scrape/burn. Common sage. The list is endless! Antioxidants, helps with inflammation, menopause, indigestion to name a few! Always add it to my "garden tea" Yellow wood sorrel AND white cover in the same patch. Yellow wood sorrel is high vitamin C! White clover can be used to help with fevers, coughs and digestive issues. One of the organizations I volunteer with a lot during the summers and school breaks when I’m not teaching—Food Well Alliance, part of the Atlanta Community Food Bank—has several urban gardens I’ve worked in and they’re what helped cultivate my love for plants and gardening. Yesterday I was able to volunteer at their Soil Fest and it was so much fun! I might’ve gone a little overboard buying some new plant babies 😬🫣 But I’m just saying they’re my belated birthday present to myself (4/16) 😂 I also got a free shirt, bandana on proper composting, free food and compost, and help some people in urban food deserts with access to fresh produce and gardening education, so it was a big win! 😄 I got some replacements that I had in my outdoor garden at my last house—white hyssop, rosemary, early fortune cucumber, Moskvich tomato, yarrow, and white sage. And I also got some new babies to try—Greek mountain tea mint, rose mint, 4 o’clock fairy trumpets, German chamomile, and lemon catnip. I use several of the herbs in the soaps and candles I make and it is one reason why I really missed having my outdoor garden, to be able to use herbs grown in my own garden, buuuttt my yard is not ideal and is why I held off after moving 3 years ago—it’s mostly a muddy hill and not a ton of sun. So I’m hoping I can find some cheap ways to make some raised containers for them to put around the side of the yard until I can move when my lease is up at the end of September and hopefully have a better outdoor space for them. I scared DH with this plant. I purchased two white birds of paradise and he thinks I’m going to let them grow as large as the one in the image. No, I like to keep them low to some point. Maybe 5 feet or so. What are your thoughts on the white BoP? As most of you know, I’ve been developing a formal garden just in case my daughter decides to marry in our backyard. I’ve planted many bulbs and roses as well as pollinator plants, and trees. Today, I was met with three blooms from the Don Juan I just planted earlier this week, blooms from the Mr. Lincoln I planted several weeks ago, a pink bloom from another climber planted earlier this year, and foliage from my Canna Musifolias tubers. I’m so excited over the growth I’ve seen this week alone and I can’t wait to plant the Aliums. Mandarin tree, and the other roses I picked up today. Here are pics of the blooms and foliage I found. Finally feeling like Spring here, and things are growing 🌿 stonecrop, catmint, yarrow are happy as can be, plus some other random herbs throughout the yard. My Chenille Firetail is happy to be back outdoors (greenhoused) I see a fluffy flower coming along! One of my favorite plants, so whimsical. SO MUCH GREENERY I loveee it.
