Good morning #TheWateringHole planty crew (I’ve still got 15 min of morning 😁) #brunchataudreys It is Friday 🥶 and this will be just a quick one to get things started because oh la la! I have 24 + 10 more garage plants that need attending. It was hard to get out of bed this morning, it’s in the 30’s today and I had warm snuggling kitties 🐈‍⬛ 🐈‍⬛ on me in addition to my heated blanket, but then I remembered that I had left the kitchen window open a crack AND I had left some plants nearby. So I 🪟 🏃🏼‍♀️ 💨 Then I remembered that my unheated garage is where I have my quarantine zone 🤦🏼‍♀️ 🥶 One begonia and one Hoya are showing a bit of distress, but I took all the plants out of the garage at least. How are you all doing today? I’m sending a special shout out to @princesspitstop Hope your move goes smoothly!! Why hello Thursday morning planty people crew! #TheWateringHole #brunchataudreys ⛅️ 🥶 I am bright-eyed 👀 and bushy-tailed 🐿️ this morning after not feeling 💯 this weekend and taking an unexpected day off. I had to go to a new grocery store pharmacy on Monday… I had no idea and was completely unprepared for them to have a beautiful plant section!! 🙀 😬 👉🏼👈🏼 I’M WEAK. I came away with three new babies. A ctenanthe burle-marxii that has been on my wish-list forever, a cute lil 2” maranta kerchoveana 🌱and a beautiful Rex begonia. Oh and a Norfolk Pine! 🌲 It smells so good! Sorry Joy @RefinedSandwort , I know you’re on a plant-acquiring hold right now and I’m sure I’m not making it ANY easier! 😆 My last piece of news which I did share in comments but not yet in a post….BONNIE IS HAVING BABIES!!!!!!! 🥳🙌🏼🍾🎊 I have been (im)patiently waiting for my curly 🕷️ plant ‘Bonnie’ to start making pups and last night I found that she had! I thought the new growth was a little different, it came out with three teeny tiny little leaves 🙀 all clustered together instead of one big leaf, and last night I discovered the lil BÉBÉ was the tip of the runner!! #NewPlants! Every quarter-year, the local garden authorities hold a small event that essentially acts as a convention. Great for local nurseries and hobbyists alike. This is what i got for the last event of the year! Philodendron gloriosum 'Leopard', $8. Like a regular gloriosum but spotted! Hoya 'Rebecca', $10. My first PROPER Hoya! Flowers smell lovely, like jasmine. Monstera 'Silver Star', $15 [negotiated $14 coz i was a dollar short XP] Itty bitty baby, i actually went in and told myself, NO MONSTERAS XD. But i couldn't resist this little fella, according to seller it's essentially a more stable 'White Monster' [basically, instead of the variegation fading as the leaf ages like in 'White Monster', 'Silver Star' retains the minty variegation. It differs from 'Full Mint' by the greenish center]. Vanda [Neofinetia] falcata, $30. This was my most expensive buy tday [most of my buys max out at $30 lol], i was torn between this and a nice specimen of Phalaenopsis equestris. But i've wanted to try my hand at a Neofinetia since forever so here we are. No means any of the fancy japanese varieties, but for 4 fans and a few blooms i think it's worth it. Three Drosera, 3 for $10 Sundew sale! 3 Droseras for $10. There were only three species available for sale anyways. The rest were VFTs and an unidentified ping. Helloooo planty people 🫶🏼🌿 It’s Thursday, and today I have cooked vegetables like I’m a real life grown person. I have also spent the morning dancing to the Eiffel 65 radio on Spotify, LOL, AND I did laundry!! Where is my medal and certificate?? 🏆🥇😂 It’s time to gather at #TheWateringHole aka #brunchataudreys . We were talking and felt like #TheWateringHole better represents who we are now…a casual and fun group that likes to hang out and chat about plants, no shaming or gatekeeping, experts and beginners all intertwined and supporting each other. I was looking around at my next oldest plants! 🪴 I rarely show my succulents, but here’s a peek at 1️⃣“Ursula” my mama aloe plant who is just as old as my 16 year old golden pothos “Phyllis.” (Who was named when I thought she was a philodendron 😂) 2️⃣ & 3️⃣ then next is “Aristotle” my 7 year old lace aloe, and a small selection of his pups. I repotted him when his 33 pups were threatening to evict him from his pot! 4️⃣ evidence of my adulthood…look at all those cooked vegetables 🥗 lol. And one of my favorite cookbooks “The Everlasting Meal,” by Tamar Adler, I like it because it’s like a philosophy and stories with recipes thrown in too, so it’s actually a cookbook you can sit down and read. Helloooo planty people 🌿💕 It’s Wednesday morning at #TheWateringHole here at #brunchataudreys , I’ve knocked over three plants and walked into a wall once, BUT ITS OKAY. I’ve found a new podcast that I’m really enjoying, so while I’m cleaning up after myself I get to nerd out listening to a nerd talk about plant care. @princesspitstop recommended this one to me: The Houseplant Coach by Veronica Oh Happy. And that got me thinking, do you all have any favorite plant podcasts, or online resources that you go to for plant care? It’s such a fine line between misinformation, basic care, expert knowledge. The host of the podcast I recommended kind of reminds me of @SuperbRaspfern , not with AS much experience as Shannon, but she’s very curious about the whys and digs deep into the science. I got a surprise day off today so I am puttering around my plants and excited about some mycorrhizae inoculant I have coming today. I went to the County Master Gardeners Nursery today. Many counties have nursery’s that are an extension of state universities. All the proceeds go to support the nurseries. Basically they are self supporting and you can get plants at a fraction of the cost of big box stores. Hey plant lovers! I’ve been searching for the alocasia Amazonia ‘bambino’ but could not find a legitimate seller! So, I went to perch (my favorite store) and saw a alocasia Polly which are VERY close to bambino! Perch never disappoints me. Here are some of the things I saw as well and wanted! For 72 dollars I saw a queen anthurium (A. Waroquenum) that was HUGE! I would have impulsively bought it ONLY if I didn’t know the problems with this plant (humidity, temp, etc.) which I do not have the perfect conditions. Saw a ROF philo and actually a couple, which they are cool! I love Jess’s (perches owner) pothos wall which never disappoints, and saw a cebu blue pothos but since it’s that silvery blue color that so many of my plants have I didnt buy. Ficus selection today was good, saw tineke Audrey and fiddle leaf which was cool! I saw a cool A. Magnificum x silver blush in the humidity box which was AWESOME but was 50 dollars ☠️ in there saw a anthurium clarinervium which was 40 dollars not bad and a monstera Thai con which was 50, so not that bad. Saw a lot of singonuims and cathlea! I saw painted lady philodendron and tons more!
