Just a quick start to the thread so there's something here before I crash out. The day has been long and draining and I've seen a mental battery symbol and a check engine light in my brain for at least two hours now. And I suspect fuel is also low, though that particular display is damaged and not accurate from time to time. 🤦♀️🤪 I'm usually relatively impervious to normal cold, but today got me even though it wasn't even that cold. I already noticed it yesterday evening, when I did my usual last sprint across the street for Mr Sleepy to relieve himself. Somehow my usually lazy "slip barefooted into open flats and don't bother with any kind of jacket" wasn't enough. (Which again, usually it is for a short time, even at well below 30 degrees, which it was yesterday night). And today the same. we've had 2-3 inches of snow overnight, but the temperatures were not that bad and I had to look somewhat intimidating for an appointment, so no thick downy coat for me and no sweater, but otherwise appropriate clothes. So for me what I wore should have been enough. but : I. Froze. The. Whole. Day. I've been sitting back home for 2 hours now where it is well above 70 degrees and my fingers feel like icicles. 🥶🤬 So. I hope you've been able to stay warm, wherever you are and whatever that means to you. Our lineup today is a bit condensed because there was so much beauty to be found in yesterday's thread. It includes 2 stunning orchids, one graceful dancing lady glowing in auburn and copper tones by @hoaobsessed and one lush cymbidium featuring a very special warm yellow from @MariansOasis' collection. @CutePolypremum showed off her contrasting two beauties in vibrant red and green that somehow perfectly complement each other. @sweetazurebluet's "terra" is just as glossy, if not more with another very special color (there seemed to be a theme of that yesterday. @Araceae popped in for a surprise post, after some well-deserved post-exam R&R with loads of stunning pictures, of which that cutie peperomia and that sun-kissed sundew were my personal favorites. And for anybody that - like me - needs just a bit more warmth today: obvious and in-your-face literal puppy love of Marian's two partners in crime (even if one might be a narc from what i know. No names will be named, you know who you are. ) Have a beautiful day filled with warmth, don't let life get you down. #thethread 9 39 Comments @RefinedSandwort · 1w Good afternoon to #TheWateringHole and #brunchataudreys ! Hope everyone is having a great Sunday. It’s another gorgeous day in my neighborhood with the high in the upper 70s. Cooler in the house than outside. Had a nice Sunday brunch with a pour over and trying to finish up another round of watering and fertilizing. Elmer, my Peruvian old man cactus had a spa day, complete with a helping of plant food. His hair is soft on top, but a little prickly on the sides. Sol, my balloon 🎈 cactus had a soak and a dose of fertilizer, too. Not sure what growth for this guy is supposed to look like. I’m trying to remember to rotate him so he won’t be as lopsided (yes, he came that way). While my Thanksgiving cacti buds continue to grow, my Easter 🐣 cactus continues to grow new leaves 🍃! Maybe we’ll try a bloom experiment with our Easter cacti in the spring. Mine needs an intervention since it hasn’t bloomed again since being in bloom when I bought it. So, anything happening in your oasis today? The cooler temperatures are firmly entrenched in Germany, it seems. We've consistently had around 30 degrees for the last few days. And since I now successfully got my tires changed and also the sun and blue sky have been smiling down on us brightly like in my last post, I've continued to smile back. Bonus points for this being the weekend and an unexpected spontaneous meet-up with a friend for an extended walk. I was so happy to see your beautiful plants in the last thread. It has been a bit slow, but quality made up the for lack in quantity. @Preciousplants1 showed off their vibrant agloanema. I know I say it every time I see one of those, but I love those colors. @MariansOasis made good on here promise to keep us updated on her newest orchid, and boy did that one not disappoint. @DreamMachine grew her hoya collection. And who of those that have started one don't understand that this is a must and don't love to see others growing theirs. 😅 And finally we have @GracedStrapwort's newest AVs in need of names. I'm curious on which ones she will land in the end. Have a beautiful day. I'll send some more of the beautiful northern Germany sky, just to share in case your skies are a bit cloudier atm. #thethread 16 59 Comments @Preciousplants1 · 2w Why die this ponytail tree look like a horror movie 3 21 Comments @MusicalRedmint · 2w Good morning, threaders. And a great morning it is. After yesterday's thread went a bit off the rails, I'm back at almost full capacity and focused on other things outside my own narrow world of problems 🙃. I only had 3 hours of sleep in total, but for this morning's schedule, that surprisingly was enough. I expect to crash later, but that's okay. Maybe I'll squeeze in some shutteye later on. Sadly, knowing I'd have this little sleep, I falsely assumed I would be too exhausted to bike to my physio today and opted for that 15 min more sleep instead. I shouldn't have done that: It was an absolutely stunning morning. Even boxed into my car, I caught myself smiling. Dawn light creeping over the first rooftops, hitting them just so. The sky not quite bright blue yet, but crystal clear, already hinting at the crisp clear blue sky that was about to come and that only subzero (<30°F) seem to be able to create. A continuous, low layer of perfectly shaped white cummulus clouds in between the roofs and the otherwise pristine sky. As if a painter had placed them there for a better contrast. And all of that driving towards the rising sun, along the glittering waterfront.just,.. chef's kiss👌 and it wasn't only the visuals. I don't know what sense of humor the universe has sometimes, but it's great. This morning was so completely the opposite to yesterday's. The roads were clear, traffic flow a dream, the traffic lights except for one all perfectly aligned to my speed. Even slower drivers or red lights seemed to only be there so that they could move lanes and switch to green with perfect timing, to give me a tiny rush of satisfaction and dopamine every time. And the drive back an hour later? With them fully clear blue sky and the sun hitting the buildings even more perfectly, creating warm glowing colors against that cold blue? I have no words. I only was a bit sad that I didn't get to bike instead. It would have been great to move, feel the wind, and breathe in that crisp morning air. I would have also loved to just stop, take some pictures, and just breathe. But to be honest, the drive itself was so absolutely serene, with perfect traffic flow and gorgeous visuals, that this alone in and of itself gave me a rush. Luckily I had another appointment afterwards, so I could at least stop at home and switch to my bike for the remaining shorter, less scenic stretch. Which sad still great. Morning air at 30 degrees with low humidity just hits different. As expected: sitting down to type and relaxing is letting me feel those missing hours, so I'm off to take a nap. Because of the sidetracked thread yesterday, the late one the day before, there are no new pictures instead I'll include a picture of my own just opening Tsiku Marguerite bloom and at least a small hint of pristine blue that i captured later without the extras and that is sadly not coming even remotely close to the irl experience: Photographed through a window pane (but of course no filters either), no contrasting sunstreaked buildings, no juxtaposed glittering water. But I'm sure you'll fill up this space with your own great snapshots now that we are nearing the weekend and I'm no longer spreading my personal negative thundercloud all over #thethread. I hope you will have a great of a morning as I had! 8 24 Comments @MusicalRedmint · 2w Good morning threaders. I was considering just retagging all of you in yesterday's late evening post by @Ms.Persnickety because there was still plenty of room. But since I then saw that it missed the #thethread hashtag, I thought, I just might do it over anyway. She asked is which our tallest plants are, and why not continue that question here. I'm sure you have great answers and pics to answer that question. we already had many fine specimen posted by you all, which I'll include in the lineup. For now I'll skip naming the threaders who posted them, though. (Except for @dreammachine's slightly different picture of her "pharmacy", which I remember because it made me smile). I'm not even sure anymore who posted those gorgeous epidendrums - which is saying something considering my love for anything orchid. So. I'm sorry. Maybe I'll edit the tags in later, but I have had a hellish morning. (Sidetracking below. As always feel free to skip if tldr or tmi. Sidetrack ends after this paragraph). But yeah, the morning wasn't great, including a teensy tiny mental breakdown and several moments of white hot rage. I'm talking 0 to 100 in milliseconds. And not even (reasonably) directed against anybody else. I mean yes, it was technically caused by others, but not because they did something really really wrong but just because they were the last straw. after two hours of continuous multiple nagging annoyances (overall sensory issues, lack of sleep, pain, communicating and scheduling issues) on top of those last two weeks (that I - obviously - still haven't completely recovered from. 😅), I was so disregulated that someone just wishing me a good morning a bit too loudly could have set me off, I'm sure. Do you know the feeling? I mean, there is nothing really wrong. Except everything is. Right now there is one random fungus gnat in the vicinity that won't go away and gets a bit too close from time to time while I'm writing and I'm horrifyingly close to throwing my phone at it. Like really. As in: that could happen. 😬 So. Anyway. Back to the thread tagging issue: because my brain obviously has turned to 100% mush and I would need to go back and forth and double and triple check in my state in order to not make mistakes, I'll skip anything else for now. 😀 I'd love to also supply some tall plant pictures myself, but you know me. Orchids and hoyas. And unless we define upward or downward vines or singular flower spikes as "tall", the tallest I can offer I guess is one brassia that's maybe 1.5 ft tall. 🤷♀️ my bigger orchids just aren't that big yet. Makes me almost wish I was at my parents'. Because then I could have a real answer. My mother's (indoor!) FLF is glorious. It reaches up to the ceiling and then some. (In her usual chaotic way, she didn't care that because of light and space issues, it was growing to the side after a while). If I could include that by proxy and without pictures on a trust me bro basis, my conservative guess would be that it's at least 7 feet tall. Okay, people, enough confused nonsense from my side. Get threading! Aaaargh the gnat🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 6 13 Comments @MusicalRedmint · 2w Hey ho to all the threaders out there that are left: enjoy this brand new one. I just hope there is still a market for it since it seems to be thinning out a bit. But of course it also seems many of you are already focused on Thanksgiving prep or are a bit under the weather, so let's see what today brings. And though there was a bit less of an exchange in Mondays thread, there were lots and lots of pretty pictures. I'd be remiss, if I didn't mention any of the many snakeplants posted by @Shells_Garden and @RefinedSandwort. I couldn't get them all, even like this. My personal favorites were @forbes57's fresh limegreen cummingiana, and most of all, this great meme/reddit find by @MariansOasis that made my day. @thenonnon provided us with pictures of some haworthias that we didn't know we needed. Und just so that this doesn't devolve into an exclusive "succulents and succulent plants" thread: take a look at this last beautiful little diva: that's one healthy calathea youngster. @GracedStrapwort must be doing something right there. There was also a great haul posted by the aptly named @iwantthatplant , but it just didn't fit. I've had a decently productive morning and early afternoon, at least enough so that it allowed me to get this thread in now. The plants are mostly well, I've finally done some badly needed watering yesterday. More blooms are coming in, but as always with my favorite genera are using all possible delaying tactics known to orchid kind. Who knows, it might still be months. My chocolaty oncidium at least is kind enough to start opening the blooms on spikes two and three just when the first is all done with its blooms. I guess that will tide me over. If I get the energy I might add pictures further down. Have a great day, especially @dreammachine who I hope is all better today. #thethread 17 81 Comments See 20 more posts

@MusicalRedmint posted 2w ago 6 13 Good morning threaders. Aaaargh the gnat🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 @MusicalRedmint posted 2w ago 17 81 Hey ho to all the threaders out there that are left: enjoy this brand new one. #thethread @MusicalRedmint posted 2w ago See 20 more posts
