So thrilled about this new leaf that I couldn't wait til #freshleaffriday to post about it. I saw it just starting to open up before the weekend and it was the only reason I was excited to get back into the office this week 😁 This is the latest rescue plant that I've taken on at my workplace and relocated to my office after being in a cold and drafty lobby. I got this absolute stunner on clearance at Lowe’s for $10, and it’s so spectacular that I decided to redecorate this bedroom with this plant as the inspiration for it all. I got this lamp especially for it, with a grow light in it. It needs a nice pot and actual plant stand, but just look how gorgeous it looks with that light shining on it! I just love the shadows from the leaves. I’m thinking some wall planters with vines would round out this corner and give me an excuse to buy even more plants! 🤩 #SplitLeafPhilodendron #PlantCorner #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict

I just repotted this into a new larger but should I have placed it lower into the pot? It’s only slightly more in the soil, if any, compared to the pot it used to be in. More photos in comments

split-leaf philo chop i finally did it! i chopped the philo that needs to move out from under the bamboo grove. decided to put it in a pot to give it a better start. i have put cinnamon powder on the cut and will let it callous for a couple days. the aerial roots were hard to pull out of the ground but i have five wound around inside the pot. can't wait to fill up the pot! #SplitLeafPhilodendron #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #HappyPlants #PropagationStation

save the philo, part 2 i deleted the part 1 post because the first attempt didn't produce any roots. but i forgot to note the greggers who gave advice and wanted updates 😩🙈 i hope you will identify yourselves again. as background, the philo is in the shadow of a giant bambu grove we need to cut down. i want to move it to a safer spot with better lighting. this time i was inspired by @Gustavo to 'air layer', to encourage some new root growth above the spot where the trunk will be cut. hopefully this will improve its chances of surviving transplant. 1) cut a shallow ring around the bark, removing the outermost and second layer 2) spread rooting hormone on the exposed inner layer 3) cover with moist peat moss 4) wrap with plastic to keep moisture in and bugs out, secure with zip ties 5) check periodically and hope roots appear! #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PropagationStation #SplitLeafPhilodendron
