New plants! Got them from a mini-convention that my local authorities hold quarter-yearly. Alocasia 'Venom'. Plant rose quite quickly in popularity last year as part of the Alocasia sub-mania. Luckily for me tissue cultures made it quite quickly mass propagated this i was able to snag this for $15. Tbh i initially didn't like it when it first came out, i wasn't too particular to silvery plants. But i think the leaf shape is unique, the tip is spiralled and the edges undulated in well-grown specimens, kinda grew on me as i started seeing more online. Alocasia azlanii. If you ask me what my favourite Alocasia would be, it'd go to the cuprea varieties. Azlanii is remarkably similar but has more colour compared to cuprea. Favourite will always be a cuprea 'Latte' [strong wishlist contender], but i'll enjoy an azlanii for now. Spent $8 for this alongside the Venom. Schismatoglottis sp. 'Aurea', not exactly sure on the ID apart from it being an Aurea variegation of a Schismatoglottis. Not a wallisii, not a calpytrata, not a prietoi and not a roseospatha. There's virtually no defining factors. Really stumped on this one. $5. Philodendron 'Florida Beauty' x mayoi [called a Floyoi]. The Philodendron 'Florida Beauty' hybrids were crazy popular anongst Philo enthusiasts, i got this small cutting on a small discount coz the seller was an outdoor teacher and i was a student. Gave it to me for $18. Same seller as the Floyoi, Monstera 'Burle Marx's Flame'. I know yall in the US been getting loads of BM Flames from Costa Farms. Finally got meself one. This one i got for $10 from the original $18. I do say the roots on this cutting were hella long. Literally was wrestling it onto the pol and into the pot. But i finally got it! #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #NewPlants #NewPlant #RarePlants #variegatedplants #AlocasiaAddicts #Alocasia #Philodendron #PhiloFlock #rarephilodendrons #Monstera #MonsteraMob #MonsteraMonday

First plant convention of the year! A tad small IMO in comparison to last year's one, but i still came home with some great stuff! The first thing i bought is this cute little Spathiphyllum. Not your regular PL btw. This is Spathiphyllum ivanportillae, which is a relatively new species from Ecuador. It's small and uniquely black, i love it. I don't care if i paid $35 for a PL. It's a special PL. The Spathiphyllum actually came with a stowaway vanilla orchid cutting. I've always wanted one but never wanted to pay for one [like what, ten bucks? Lol], so I'll gladly take it. Next is this Anthurium. It's a hoffmannii x forgetii 'Variegated'. I know it says variegated. But as we can see, variegation doesn't always translate in genetics. Still really pretty and a good size too for $15. Then this one is a personal guilty pleasure, but i still love it. The most expensive plant i've bought so far [$65], a Philodendron billietiae x mayoi! Gotta love the variegated hybrid philos, they're gorgeous 😍. And finally i brought back two more hoyas! For only $10! A bella 'Luis Bois' [inner variegated too i think] and a lacunosa! The lacunosa currently has a bloom, but i can barely detect a scent, so we'll see. The longest vine on the lacunosa is almost a meter 😱. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #NewPlants #RarePlants #Spathiphyllum #PeaceLily #Vanilla #OrchidLovers #OrchidOrg #Orchid #Anthurium #AnthuriumAssembly #Philodendron #PhiloFlock #PhiloAddict #rarephilodendrons #variegatedplants #Hoya #HoyaHangout #HoyaHeads

Let's look at some unfurled leaves, coz lately my philodendrons are going crazy This first photo is of my Philodendron 'Red Congo Dwarf Mint'. This is a typical unfurling leaf of Philodendron erubescens and similar species. Reddish leaf, no sheath. This next photo is of my Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde', which essentially grows a new leaf every week. You'll notice with many climbing philodendrons that they will have a sheath as they grow from which the leaf emerges. In my Paraiso Verde at least, the sheath [sheath A] will not be disposed of until the next sheath [sheath B] starts to grow. After the leaf from sheath B starts too emerge will then sheath A be disposed of. You can see what i mean from this Philodendron 'Florida Beauty'. The sheath you see below the new growth is starting to become extremely loose. In some time, it'll be disposed of. You may however also notice the sheath here is mostly unraveled already—the sheath on my Paraiso Verde has yet to unravel, as i notice the sheath on my Paraiso Verde only fully unravels when the leaf has grown out of the sheath. On this next example of my Philodendron gloriosum 'Snow Leopard', the sheath is already dying as the leaf emerges. This is interesting as the sheath appears to only protect the growth when it initially emerges—once large enough, but still not open, the sheath is already of no significance to the plant. You'll usually notice high-degree of damage on plants like these in the wild. This last one is of my Philodendron tortum. In the photo you might notice, its similar to that to my 'Paraiso Verde' or my 'Florida Beauty'. The difference is that this leaf emerges from the side, rather than from the top. I do find this interesting, as it does leave the leaf more exposed to damage, but does mean the leaf can unravel faster. Mine is already starting to loosen up. All of this is based on what i observed coz of how my ADHD picks up the most random things and decides to info-dump with almost every social interaction, so i might be wrong on some of this. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PlantTherapy #Philodendron #PhiloFlock #RarePlants #rarephilodendrons #PlantInfo #ADHDPLANTLOVERS

Hello #GregFam! We have another weekend convention here, so i'm back with more plants! Got some really cool ones! @PHILO We'll start with the philos, coz that's what half the plants i bought are. And i'm so pumped, i got THREE of my top fav philos! Starting with the top, a Philodendron 'Red Congo Dwarf Mint'! I mean LOOK AT THAT! Red growth, that minty variegation, the dwarf bushy habit, what's not to love? And it was a REALLY good deal too, ONLY $15!!!! This would normally be anywhere from $130-170!!! Can't believe my luck! Next up Philodendron rubrijuvenile 'El Choco Red', such a beauty IMO. Not in the best condition, but it's still gorgeous! Velvety leaves, brilliant red undersides and shoots, plus a more creeping habit, stuff i'd love! Philodendron esmeraldense, if you haven't seen the mature plant you MUST as a philo/aroid-lover! Challenges spiritus-sancti and patriciae in every aspect, like they had a child who got all the good traits! Philodendron tortum, this one was a last-minute buy lol. But the bushiness and for only $5? Sold. Up next we got the orchids. @MusicalRedmint i got two bellina hybrids you might enjoy, a Samera and a Joy Spring Venus 'Snow White' x bellina 'Mother Earth'. We actually got double plants in the Samera! Kinda small, so i'm not expecting blooms anytime soon, but the second one should bloom in a couple months, or so the seller says. #HappyPlants #NewPlants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #NewGrowth #RarePlants #Philodendron #PhiloFlock #PhiloAddict #rarephilodendrons #OrchidOrg #OrchidLovers #Orchid #Orchids #Anthurium #AnthuriumAssembly @Idplantthat @DreamMachine

#NewPlants! Every quarter-year, the local garden authorities hold a small event that essentially acts as a convention. Great for local nurseries and hobbyists alike. This is what i got for the last event of the year! Philodendron gloriosum 'Leopard', $8. Like a regular gloriosum but spotted! Hoya 'Rebecca', $10. My first PROPER Hoya! Flowers smell lovely, like jasmine. Monstera 'Silver Star', $15 [negotiated $14 coz i was a dollar short XP] Itty bitty baby, i actually went in and told myself, NO MONSTERAS XD. But i couldn't resist this little fella, according to seller it's essentially a more stable 'White Monster' [basically, instead of the variegation fading as the leaf ages like in 'White Monster', 'Silver Star' retains the minty variegation. It differs from 'Full Mint' by the greenish center]. Vanda [Neofinetia] falcata, $30. This was my most expensive buy tday [most of my buys max out at $30 lol], i was torn between this and a nice specimen of Phalaenopsis equestris. But i've wanted to try my hand at a Neofinetia since forever so here we are. No means any of the fancy japanese varieties, but for 4 fans and a few blooms i think it's worth it. Three Drosera, 3 for $10 Sundew sale! 3 Droseras for $10. There were only three species available for sale anyways. The rest were VFTs and an unidentified ping. I got a rotundifolia, a burmannii and one i forgot. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #NewPlants #RarePlants #variegatedplants #Philodendron #PhiloFlock #PhilodendronGloriosum #Hoya #HoyaHangout #HoyaHeads #Monstera #MonsteraMob #MonsteraMonday #OrchidLovers #OrchidOrg #Orchid #VandaFalcata #CarnivorousPlants #CarnivorousClub #CarniverousPlants #Carnivorous #Drosera #Sundew #TheThread #AlocasiaAddicts #Alocasia #PhilodendronMicans #Micans

Hey plant lovers! Well it’s Sunday, my least favorite day cause it’s just Monday in disguise, but wait… did I say it’s, SUNDAY? WELCOME TO THE PLANT RANT THE PLACE TO RANT ABOUT PLANTS! Today’s topic: plants that confuse me or plant things that confuse me. Ok so alocasia, already confusing but some strange happened yesterday… so I was checking all my plants when I saw Sammy, my silver dragon alocasia who has been dormant SINCE SEPTEMBER. I looked around at him and dusted his leaves for any pests (just in case) and saw the back of his stem was chunky, curious I looked to see what it was, and guess what it was. A NEW LEAF! Ok so I’m very happy about this, but quick question? HOW DID HE GET THAT LEAF? No I don’t live in Australia I live in America, and it’s COLD in Pennsylvania my question is HOW did he do that? Ok so propagating, love it as a whole, but these days there’s so much propagating propaganda out on the web that say you NEED to do this or your cuttings will die. For example, rooting helpers are just useless. Do they speed up your growth? Maybe. Do they make the chance of a cutting to die off 0%? No! Because as long as you have aerial roots and part of a stem you’re good to go! You don’t need to waist your money on ‘rooting helpers’ you can just get the same thing with scissors and water. Next ficus trees. Why do they eternally grow upwards! Why do we have to keep training them to be bushy? I swear every time I think the ficus on YouTube videos will be as bushy in real life, cause I no they’ll not! You have to cut it, and then you have two plants you have to deal with! It also releases a sap called ficusin which if swallowed, can cause swelling of the mouth or almost be fatal! So don’t let your pets around your fiddle leaf fig, they could wreak havoc on their life! If you know philodendron, you know that they need a pole of some sorts, and don’t do that? They double down with fussiness. I can’t tell you HOW MANY CHOPSTICKS I’ve had to use for my philodendron, and I’m calling you out silver, over the summer she ripped herself out of her pot and we had to water prop her! It so far hasn’t been an easy task to do, but we had to push on with it! Silvers never the same, her leaves are curly and she hasn’t grown in 2 months. I’m pretty certain I might be done with having a plant that grows slower than a Hoya kerii. Well that’s it for today, bye guys! #AlocasiaAddicts #Alocasia #AlocasiaSilverDragon #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #Ficus #FicusGang #FicusFam #ficusfriday #Philodendron #PhiloFlock #philodendronsilversword #NotSoHappyPlants
