Okay I’ve posted this before in comments, but I need to make my own post about this new baby of mine, This last week I finally did it… I got my first #alocasia 😱🥳 I’ve been doing tons of research and I just happened to stop at Home Depot right after they had a huge brand new shipment, and there was one beautiful Alocasia sinuata hiding amongst every thing else. It looked like a sad little crocodile (alligator? Which snout is shaped like which?) that needed a home so off with me it came! (Think of THAT what you will 😂) My one question is—I know you’re not supposed to “bury the crown” ie the part where the roots meet the green bits (I am very scientific 🤓), but this seems wobbly to me, especially since this one needs more of a shallow pot. How do you keep it from wobbling while it’s settling in? NEW SHELF!! I got another shelf that was delivered yesterday, so naturally no, I DID NOT study for my finals. Hey #GregCommunity !! My sister ( @Maddsplantz ) had this wonderful idea of making a plant scrapbook. ☺️ So we got binders and notebooks, a whole bunch of my mom’s scrapbooking stuff, and we are gonna make a page or two dedicated to one plant with care instructions and different information about them, along with their names and when we got them. Y’all I can’t. I just can’t. (I mean I can) but I just can’t. 🥹 I did NOT think I would EVER have any luck with an orchid. Let alone an orchid from Walmart. Y’all. An orchid. From Walmart. WALMART. I took this girl under my wing and I have just been winging it this whole time! Waverly is the first orchid I have ever owned. She had one shoot of blooms when I first bought her. About a month ago I saw a SECOND shoot coming out of her leaves. A second shoot of blooms!!!!! What did I do to deserve this?! Here she is today! I can count at least seven more buds on the way. We don’t deserve plants. They are just so beautiful 🤩 It has been such a pleasure to watch this gal grow! #HappPlants #HappyPlace #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #OrchidLovers #Orchid #NewGrowth

Yesterday, I sent my #PlantProtégé to his room for punching his brother. I didn't hear from him for over an hour. I assumed he was thinking about what he did and he was feeling remorseful for his actions ... no. That wasn't it. Here is the story all about Francis. #FrancisTheFiddle Francis was my first “big” plant purchase (first picture - the day I brought her home). She grew, grew, and grew. But her trunk was very weak. I decided to LITERALLY chop her in HALF earlier this year. She was a twig with roots, in dirt, for some time. I honestly did not know what to expect (last picture). But next thing I knew-she showed signs of GROWTH (these pictures will be in the comments). Then-LEAVES! She started getting leaves, more and more leaves. And now fast forward to today she is a sweet little princess - taking her sweet time and showing me patience! I am so excited to see what she looks like in a year from now, two years from now….and so on! #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #FiddleLeafFig #HappyPlants #HappyPlace #NewGrowth #PlantTherapy #BeforeAndAfter #PlantLove

#FunFactFriday DID YOU KNOW!? ZZ Plants can produce flowers!?!? If your answer is no, neither did I…until this week. I got so excited - I may have screamed! If your answer is yes, do you own a ZZ Plant that has bloomed? Or do you just have the knowledge that they bloom? The first picture is the “pod” holding the flower (the right shoot). The second picture shows the back of the flower starting to open up. ……I am speechless. 🌻 The sunflower in the last picture all the way to the left is taller than me…I am 5’4”. I planted these WAY too late in the season just curious what would happen. They are easy to forget about because they are in the garden bed at the back of our home. One day late to #FunFactFriday - but here it is! A continuation of last weeks - baby bunny bellies. If I have not already convinced you that they are an awesome plant to own…this may do it. 🤭 I have talked about easy these plants are to propagate - well… LOOK AT THOSE ROOTS! This was in a matter of two weeks?Three weeks? After adding the cuttings to water….😲 I created two new babies with the propagations (pictures three and four). #FunFactFriday coming at ya! This week’s fun fact is about #Tradescantia Chrysophylla - also known as the Baby Bunny Belly Plant! This plant gets its fun name by the texture of the leaves. Each leaf - quite literally feels like a bunnies belly. This plant is extremely easy to grow AND propagate. I received my original “plant” from a friend who gave me three little baby cuttings (first picture). Which eventually matured into the second picture, in a matter of a few months. Now, this same plant has been trimmed back at least seven times…to make more babies. The mother plant is STILL producing new leaves (third picture). A few weeks ago I cut her back to where she was pretty much bald….yet look at all that new growth! Just this week, I cut back two of her baby plants to create several propagations (picture four). This plant literally just keeps on giving and giving (cutting in water, last picture)…and the cuttings already have roots starting….I just put these propagations in water less than three days us ago.
