#GrowRecs x #freshleaffriday Here’s a different kind of fresh leaf Friday I hope you’ll find useful. I have been keeping house full time for over 13 years and am always brainstorming ways to improve efficiency. Today I want to share some tips for keeping your plants clean and why you should. It’s important to clean your plants regularly. Grime and dust create a layer that can interfere with photosynthesis. They can also camouflage diseases or insects who may look like grime or dust (powdery mildew, fuzzy aphids, scale, spider mites to name a few). Spending this time with your plants, if you can, builds your familiarity and increases your awareness so you will be better able to detect changes in their health. Below I’ve shared my current brush collection in descending order of roughness from left to right. I have a stiff auto detailing brush, a pastry brush,a plain toothbrush brush with no scrubbers, various makeup brushes and a soft auto detailing brush (which could also be just a powder brush). Stiff brushes can be used on hard trunks or to clean containers and sweep up around plants. The eye makeup brushes are the most versatile. A soft, dense brush provides enough pressure to gently remove stubborn debris like purged minerals. A fan brush diffuses pressure to clean more fragile plants. It can also squeeze into nooks and crannies like ribs or attached drip trays. Last, a big fluffy brush can make quick work of larger delicate surfaces. CAVEAT: Do not clean plants with farina, a natural powdery wax coating that protects from sunburn and moisture. Feel free to comment with any cleaning questions you have or tips of your own. #plantsmakepeoplehappy #happyplants #greggang #PlantClinic

Foliar Cleaning/Pest Removal Tip Mr. Frond had a little spider mite flare up. Thankfully I caught it right away, but since he is so large and has so many leaflets I wandered around brainstorming a cleaning method and hit gold. I found the below auto washing mitt and pad set. It’s so convenient. One side of the mitt is soft and the other side mildly abrasive. I also picked up a twin pack of long handle detailing brushes, one soft like a makeup brush and the other stiff like a boar brush. I deep cleaned and applied foliar treatment to EVERY PLANT I OWN in roughly 4 hours, including a break for dinner. To limit the risk of contamination I worked backwards from least likely exposure up to patient zero. First I sprayed the foliar treatment and then I wiped the plant down using one hand for support. By the time I worked up to Mr. Frond I was able to just lightly sandwich a frond between the pad and glove and drag my hands over it. Then I popped all my tools into a ziplock and placed it in the deep freeze for extra precaution. It’s week 4 now and there hasn’t been any new evidence of spider mites. Also Mr. Frond is GLEAMING! 🤩 This method will work for any foliar treatment or cleaning you need to do. Dust, mineral deposits, guttation stains have all disappeared. My only criticism is that the glove is not lined so you willl need to wear a dish glove or something underneath to avoid wetting your hand. A second gentler and cheaper option is a ā€œwoolā€ staining mitt. This can be purchased in the paint supplies aisle and has a waterproof interior lining. This is great for dusting just throw it in your washing machine first to remove loose fibers. #growrecs #plantsmakepeoplehappy #greggang

#IKEAGreenhouseAddicts goooooood morning!! This is a long one so here’s your TLDR: I’ve setup 2 Akerbars, but there are some variations. Notes are included as well as pics (also in comments). I’ve setup 2 of my Akerbar cabinets so far. These are test setups (especially until my hygrometers arrive). In the mean time, here’s what I did. Took 2 shelves out of this bookcase. The shelves and frame are very sturdy, in my experience the shelves have not been damaged by water, fertilizer, or heat. Because of how I took out the shelves, each of these cabinets has the ability to open the lid all the way. Better yet, I used a command hook on the underside of the shelf above so that I have a sturdy holder! Both cabinets have been sealed with black door weatherstripping along the front and back of the tray. I measured the space between the two ā€œlegsā€ at the bottom of the cabinet, and this is where the strip was applied. The cabinets are also on a heat mat. I ordered a 4 pack of Barrina T5 full spectrum lights. They come with an adhesive magnet so you don’t have to drill anything! In the top cabinet, I’ve added a black saucer filled with damp spaghnum moss to promote humidity. I’ve also added acrylic shelves so that some of the plants could be a little elevated and have a more stable foundation. I’m going to be adding ā€œCat Tongue Gripsā€ to those acrylic shelves so the plants atop stay in place. (BTW, Cats Tongue Grip is awesome. I have it in clear and black and have used in various applications. It’s adhesive on the bottom and super grippy on top.) I’m going to wait and see if any other sealing is needed or if the current is right for the plants. For the bottom cabinet, I didn’t add the saucer with moss. These are my little corms that I’m trying to grow, so I’ve put them in as they were. But when the egg tray arrives I’ll be swapping the cups out. I’ve got some adhesive acrylic shelves to add, but since I don’t need them right now I’m waiting to add. I want to make sure the placement makes sense when needed. I will be tyding the cables with clips from Command later today. I also have a mesh wrap to tuck them all together and make it cleaner. I’ve got the electrical cords connected to a smart plug so I can set a schedule or just turn off/on. There are more pics in the comments for those interested! #ikeacabinet #IKEAGreenhouse #happyplants #Corinne #PlantAddict #PropagationStation #PlantStorageandDecor #GregGang #GrowRecs

Good morning #GregGang! Since we’re seeing new blooms outside, I thought it was a great time to share our favorite indoor and/or outdoor tools for plant care! Also, in case you’ve missed it, we have a few new groups this week! Join us! #GrowRecs - products, tools, or general tips for healthy plants! #PlantStorageandDecor - share your setups, DIY builds, how you’ve used plants to decorate or decorated around your plants, etc. #IKEAGreenhouseAddicts - share your IKEA cabinets, tips, accessories, etc. #DiscountCode - post discount codes or sales that you think others would appreciate! #Helpmenamemyplant - get creative and help name a plant or ask for help naming yours! The first pic is a pair of nippers that are so easy to use & more comfortable than scissors (in my opinion). Next, an auger that attaches to your drill for planting! This one is 4ā€ wide & 12ā€ long but they come in many sizes! And at $17 this is worth it. The little dust pan is great to clean up small messes! I started using 5 gallon water jugs for my plants a few months ago. The last pic is a dispenser so you can fill a watering can or bring the plant over & give it a splash straight from the jug! The last pic is squeeze bottles for watering! I have a few of these & have marked them (Fertilizer, Water, Cal Mag, etc.). Great for smaller pots & saucers. You can easily squeeze liquid into the tiny saucers without spilling! (I’m not suggesting to keep fertilizer premixed. Rather having a dedicated bottle for it.) Plus, you can use the embossed measurements on the bottle, or figure out your water to product ratio and add lines with sharpie for each one. šŸ™‚ My last tip is get a succulent tool kit (even if you don’t have succulents)! It’s great for tending to seedlings or corns, but also just great to have small tools when you’re working with younger plants. šŸ’• ✨Share some of your favorite tools or tips! Let’s spread knowledge✨ Also, let me know if you want links to anything šŸ™‚ #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #Corinne #GreggersSupportingGreggers #PLANTMAFIA #cpclubthursday #MemeItUpMonday #GregCommunity #NewGrowth

YALLLLLLL. I had a huge post typed and I hit the back button on accident. Links and everything 😭 #GregFeedback can we get an ā€œare you sureā€ prompt? PRETTY PLEASE!! Anyway, now you’ll all be thankful for my condensed new version. For anyone who wants a way to automate your outdoor watering where hoses are involved, take a look at this! It’s a smart hose control from Orbit BHyve. There’s a phone app it links to, you tell them pertinent details of each zone (4 available), and you can enable smart watering where it factors in soil, rain, land slope, type of plants, etc. I’m using this for my drip emitters in my planters! Now I don’t have to fuss with a big hose that potentially takes out flowers in its path. My body and my plants are grateful šŸ˜‰ Also, highly recommend their Smart Control panel for inground systems. It’s just as thorough and easy to use! If you aren’t familiar with drip systems for outdoor planters, here’s a quick rundown. You attach an adapter to a hose bib, and from the adapter run thin tubing. From that tubing you attach connectors that join the tubing and emitters (the little sprinklers that water the pots). It’s fairly inexpensive and very customizable. The water flows more gently too so you don’t risk damaging delicate plants or roots. I’ll link some components in the comments. #GrowRecs #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #Corinne #OutdoorGrowing #PLANTMAFIA #LowMaintenance #GreggersSupportingGreggers

Good morning #GregGang! In the past week or so, there have been a few posts showing our creativity with naming plants and gifting. So naturally, I decided we need a group where we share ideas about plant stands, greenhouses and their setup, storage, etc. So… if this sounds like something you’d enjoy, join #PlantStorageandDecor! I have my first IKEA greenhouse coming tomorrow so I’m itching to set it up! If you’ve got one, share your setups! I’ve ordered acrylic pegboard with shelves to start. I’ll share pics when I’m done! In the meantime, here’s a pic of a GORGEOUS greenhouse that I aspire to have. Also, it might be cool to have a group where we can share our experiences with #PlantMail , so let me introduce you to #PlantMailSupplier, a space where we can share online purchases and experiences. Let’s help each other find the cream of the crop, and avoid the disappointment of order that passed in less time than it took you to receive your order. 🫣 What the heck, let’s go all in. Here’s a new group to provide recommendations of products, routines, pest control, etc. so we can all have a thriving oasis!
