What are the shedding fuzzy looking kinda transparent almost skin like things near the bottom of the stems? Is that normal or some sort of infestation?

Got this big #BostonFern on fall clearance for only $12. It was the perfect background for some photos! Little did I know (and it made sense after a thought about it 🤦‍♀️) that they need lots of humidity to be happy. So I got a humidifier for him and put it right next to him! I’m so happy to see this #NewGrowth ! It haven’t seen a fern this happy outside its natural habitat. 🥹 It was difficult but I’m proud I was able to somewhat recreate his home. (USDA Zone 6 here with winter coming 🥲) #HappyPlants #PlantCorner #PlantsMakePeopleHappy

My fern is drying out on the tips and the new starts it had died. I have only had it for a month and I've had it in one place so far on an east window about 1 ft from the window. I usually water on Sundays but feel it's not happy. What should I do?

Darwin has really filled out over the summer, being outside. It's getting pretty cold here at night so I had to find a spot inside for him!
