Been fighting thrips off, heavy casualties, mostly succulents 😭😭😭 but it’s finally starting to work and I haven’t seen a thrip in many days now. Going to continue treatment for three more weeks per instructions to make sure they are ALL GONE. Hate them so much! Silver lining: they killed so many of my plants that I now have a large deficit and that means I get to go plant shopping when this is all over, right?? 🤞🏻🛍️🪴 Anyway here are some recent pics. New leaves on albo syngo and philodendron billitiae, 🐞 friend on my green unicorn alocasia and my VSOH is getting SO LONG!! It was touching the floor when it was hanging in the window, so I put it in my skylight to give it more room to grow. 🌿💛 #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #SucculentLove #SucculentSquad #VariegatedStringOfHearts #variegatedplants #AlboSyngonium #Syngonium #SyngoniumSquad #TrailingPlants #BeneficialBugs #Philodendron #PhiloFlock #babevila #ArrowheadPlant 17 28 Comments @rebbieirl · 2M Hey gang, please give me your best #thrips advice 🫠 1 14 Comments @Seedstarter · 7M Have you ever seen these guys? Due to their color, you think they are spider mites, but they are too big and swift. They are known as Crazee Mites (the Whirligig Mites). They are beneficial predators that consume thrips, aphids, leafhoppers, spider mites, adult whiteflies, adult fungus gnats, psyllids, springtails, mealybugs, and more. As you can see, some have liked my VFTs, and I have even found one on my succulent table. I am researching how to get them to go on and guard my other vulnerable plants. Anyway, I just made this post to say if you see them, please don't kill them; they are your friends. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #BeneficialBugs #Theyarentbugsbutyougetthepoint #organicgardening #CrazeeMites #naturesgoodguys 5 1 Comments @GaryPoopins · 1Y Recently reapplied beneficial insects to all of my plants and then shot over to my mom’s and did every one of hers, too. Absolutely just my opinion, but there’s no better way to be proactive about protecting your plants from the asshole insects - especially fungus gnats #HappyPlants #BeneficialBugs #PlantsMakePeopleHappy 2 2 Comments @thingsNstuff · 1Y Well, that’s definitely one way to keep my hands off while it develops new roots... at least I won’t have to worry about pests😅 #SucculentSquad #OutdoorGrowing #BeneficialBugs 8 3 Comments @Seedstarter · 1Y Friend or Foe 0 8 Comments @foliagegirl · 1Y When you have noticed #aphids, #mealybugs AND #spidermites amongst your plants, now that the weather has warmed up...time to bring out the mini warriors! For the Aussies, this is where I buy from. Just received them. They are promptly getting their new homes in a moment! #BeneficialBugs #lacewinglarvae #californicusmites #bugsforbugs #miniwarriors 4 4 Comments @Propa · 2Y Let’s talk beneficial insects 🐞 So I grow 99% of my indoor collection in semi-hydro mediums, and I wasn’t sure if using beneficial insects would be feasible for my setup. I had a few conversations with a Natures Good Guys rep, and settled on 2 insects that they said can be released at the same time, and will be good for thrips, spider mites, whiteflies, (also can be great preventative measures to keep around!) They’re called Amblyseius cucumeris & Amblyseius Swirskii. The last photo on this post will show you how tiny they are, every white dot on the side of the cup is one of the insects(about as small as if you took a pencil and made a dot on a paper). So they sell hanging boxes to release them, I have too many plants for that. I made these hanging cups. And I watched them go up the sides, follow the paper clips, and go up the leaves. It’s all about how you fold the paper clip, they need to be able to follow it to the plant leaves/stems. I found it helpful to bend some leaves into the cups(see Hoya rope-photo 3). Some will struggle tho, so I ended up just dumping the rest onto the leaves(they come in vermiculite, no big deal). Didn’t want to dump them into the leca, them fall through then not have a chance. I talked a lot about this with the reps. Then I ordered 29,000 total so any bad bugs lurking around get ready, the good guys are here!🌿 #GregGang #BeneficialBugs #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PestControl 6 10 Comments @FieryArugula · 2Y My poor plant has mealy bugs, so I took all the ladybugs wintering on my walls and put them on it. I’m sure they’re starving. They have grown quite a lot since I got these ones, so hopefully they make it to adulthood! They have gathered so much debris on their backs and moving super fast, so I think that's a good sign 😊 caught a decent shot of one of them on Dulcie too. #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #BeneficialBugs #beneficialinsects #bugs #lacewing #PestControl #PLANTMAFIA 16 23 Comments @foliagegirl · 3Y The #aphids have been attacking a lot of my plants lately with no sign of getting better, so I called the BUG guns in again. I seriously love #lacewinglarvae for this. I ordered 4,000 eggs a couple days ago and thank goodness they arrived today as I found the aphids on another plant! 🥲 Most of my monsteras, prayer plants, syngoniums and ZZs have been getting devoured and it's sad seeing how bad some of them look. I have included a snap of my Athena infested with aphids, the most recent victim of the attack. If you're Aussie and curious about #BeneficialBugs #beneficialinsects, this is where I buy mine from. I have used lacewing larvae before and they absolutely decimate aphids in no time, even better than I found with ladybugs. #PlantAddict #PLANTMAFIA #pests 8 5 Comments @ForFoxSake · 3Y Do I have spider mites? Well, kind of. Aren’t you worried? Nope! It’s a predatory mite and this species is Amblyseius swirskii that eat thrips, aphids, vegan mites (the ones eating the plant) and also they eat the larvae of gnats and flies. I’ve been letting a few of my plants take in some rain water lately and got some mite satchels as a pre-emptive strike. A few have set up camp on one of my rehab Serpens and #ClubKeiki success story. I’d absolutely be freaking out if I didn’t know these were predatory mites but knowing I introduced them on purpose makes me feel a little protected that they are thriving. Comfortable being uncomfortable #BeneficialBugs #ScienceWithGreg 18 10 Comments @Kiersten · 3Y 🌎 Greg Team here to wish you a very happy #WorldConservationDay 🚨 Last week, the migratory #monarchbutterfly was declared endangered by the IUCN Red List. As much as 99.9% of the population may be gone because of deforestation, pesticides, and parasites. 🗺 Monarchs rely on native species of #milkweed to complete their incredible *2,500 mile* migrations down to Mexico for the winter. These milkweed species are also in danger, and you can help! 🌱 In honor of #WorldConservationDay, let’s put all our green thumbs together and see how many milkweed plants we can get growing! 🦋 Did you know not all milkweed is helpful to monarchs? Tropical milkweed is often sold by nurseries in place of native species. As pretty as it is, when growin’ outside its native region it can host parasites (called Ophryocystis elektroscirrha, say that 3x fast) that have played a huge role in the decline of our beloved monarchs. 🧡 Lucky for us, the Xerces Society has awesome guides on your local native species of milkweed and where to find them!
