NEED A “WATERMATE”? Self Watering “WaterMate”! I love the name “WATERMATE”! This is ANOTHER gift idea for a plant lover needing a holiday ! So today the forecast top is 38’C (just over 100’F) so a cooler day than yesterday but those plant sure do get thirsty in such weather. Aussies do like using the word mate so I guess it’s no surprise this product is called a Water Mate, Maaaate ! Let me know your impressions of this idea for a “WATERMATE “! I think it could easily be replicated with a wick, a bottle and some tubing with a probe to push the wick into the dirt. However this WATERMATE does all that for you in this design. *This is a new Australian product but is there a US or other equivalent? It’s amazing to see some many Cephalotus under one roof. So I was able to take some photos of the terrariums and other Cephalotus. These can be a bit tricky to grow but under the right conditions (like all CPs) they can thrive. And something rarely seen - a Cephalotus with a flower stalk! They can be tricky to pollinate and even to get seeds from but this Cephalotus owner managed it. #cpclubthursday CP CLUB THURSDAY for October 31 2024 Halloween 🎃 👻 “Because if it’s Thursday, it’s Carnivorous Plants Club! “ Welcome to #cpclubthursday 🌟NOW OVER 220 MEMBERS !🌟 FOCUS: Hydroponics CPs! So here’s a great way to look at growing CPs that seems to be a great way as with most hydroponics, you need to add nutrients to the water but with CPs they prefer a nutrient free medium to grow in (hence eg peat moss/perlite or pure sphagnum moss!) This guy is a great resource for anyone growing Nepenthes indoors (hence the Windowsill Nepenthes) and Remy is based in Canada (from France hence French accent!). So I have been watching his LetPot hydroponic videos and he just released his latest update. Here’s the video and it’s fairly short (6.5 minutes): https:// It’s similar to other brands like Aerogarden (did they go out of business recently !?!) in using plugs into a water reservoir and grow lights. Anyway share if you have tried this hydroponic system for your own CPs or similar or planning to give it a go! CP CLUB THURSDAY for September 5th, 2024 Welcome to #cpclubthursday 🌟NOW 180 MEMBERS !🌟 SPECIAL FEATURE: The 3 Sundew Sisters: Tropical Sundews - the Drosera adelae, D. prolifera, and D. schizandra. #3sundewsisters I have extracted the following information on these 3 sundew sisters: Originating from tropical Australian Queensland, Drosera adelae, D. prolifera and D. schizandra, three closely related species, are considered as the 3 Sisters. These species are endemic to far north Queensland. They are unique to the genus in that they are found growing exclusively in rainforest habitat. Peter D'Amato has referred to Drosera adelae, D. prolifera, and D. schizandra as the three sisters from Queensland. The leaves of mature plants are about as different looking as any sisters could be but they are more closely related to each other than they are to any other Drosera. And like any three sisters, each has different growing preferences. But they are united in that juvenile plants do have similar leaves and the flowers are similar as well. The tropical Drosera adelae, D. prolifera, and D. schizandra are about as close as you can get to jungle sundews. There are other Drosera that live in tropical regions and overlap the range of these species such as Drosera burmannii, D. indica, D. banksii, and D. spatulata, but they are not restricted to the wet tropical habitats and are definitely not jungle or rainforest plants. Well, actually, there is now a new sister! Recently a fourth "sister" was discovered and it was named Drosera buubugujin.
