#PhalaenopsisOrchid Discussion

I will not use Darrels great new hashtag before the coming Sunday, but, man, I am sad. Belle has crossed over today. A new victim of the mites/my efforts at treatment. โ˜ ๏ธโ˜ ๏ธโ˜ ๏ธ Look at those leaves. No sign of dehydration or sickness anywhere. Just plain old stem rot. Once again, it moved ridiculously fast. When I noticed it, everything was over already, since it didn't start from the top down and I disregarded the first leaf it shed from below. My suspicion is that the mites have worked on the crown and joints, destroying the protective barriers. I really am extremely careful with watering, just once, not even 2 weeks ago, I had to treat it with something that got it wet for 20min. Dried it off as best I could, but the existing mite damage must have made the entry points for infection even more accessible. She had the most gorgeous leaves, smelled heavenly like roses and was big and strong. And of course had beautiful flowers as well. I hate hate hate those mites. #mitesarestupid #orchidlovers #phalaenopsisorchid #notsohappyplants

Suggestions?

OMG, thank you so much for all your advice

Yay,just this week I had been getting a bit worried since I have not only been overspending on plants, but also on mite treatments,... just to be honored to be among the Greg gift card recipients. ๐Ÿฅณ more orchids here I come ๐Ÿ˜€ And this isn't the only good news. After I might have killed my hoya krohniana during my desperate attempts to find something that works against the little ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ (she is still fighting but losing leaves daily and there aren't a lot left), I finally took a deep breath and decided to try one last resort: beneficials. They arrived today: 8000 cucumeris amblyseius mites (I gave 2000 to a friend with thrips problems) . And I am still sane (even though,... who knows how this will develop over time, and not counting preexisting conditions. And .. what is "sane", really?). Furthermore, I already saw some outliers moving down at least one pot with loose bark. Next to my phobias, my main concern was that cucumeris aren't known for going into the medium where a lot of "my" mites seem to have settled down (patio and picket fence and all). I will still have to see how they go about coco coir and soil, but at least Emma's bark was lose enough that they seem to like to hunt down there. Wish me luck. And maybe my krohniana as well. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ #orchidlovers #pestcontrol #hoya #hoyahangout
